Successfully running the Beijing Winter Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games is a solemn commitment made by China to the international community. Since 2017, General Secretary Xi Jinping has made five field visits to the preparations for the Winter Olympics. On January 18, 2021, when General Secretary Xi Jinping inspected and investigated the National Alpine Ski Center, he stressed that it is necessary to highlight the concept of green Olympic Games, combine the development of sports with the promotion of ecological civilization construction, and make sports facilities harmoniously integrate with natural landscapes to ensure that people can enjoy the infinite charm of ice and snow sports and the ecological beauty of nature.
Unlike the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where all the venues were concentrated in the city, most of the snow venues of the Beijing Winter Olympics are located between mountains and rivers. "How to minimize the interference of artificial construction on the natural environment on the basis of meeting the requirements of exciting Olympic events has become the biggest challenge for our designers." Li Xinggang, chief planner and chief designer of the design complex in the Yanqing division of the Beijing Winter Olympics, said.
At an altitude of more than 2,000 meters above sea level, on The Xiaohaituo Mountain in Yanqing, Li Xinggang trekked, stopped, looked out, and spread out the sketchbook to depict the composition. Countless field surveys, countless sketches, traditional Chinese architectural aesthetics and the sustainable concept of the modern Winter Olympics met in Yanqing, and a landscape painting that blended into natural mountains and forests and perfectly embodied the concept of Chinese culture appeared in front of Li Xinggang's eyes.

"The design concept of Yanqing Competition Area is condensed into 8 words - 'Mountain Forest Venue, Ecological Winter Olympics', which is not a native forest park, nor is it an artificial nature that has been overly changed after a large number of venue construction, but a landscape painting of artificial and natural reflection." Li Xinggang said.
The planning and design team of Yanqing Competition Area pays attention to the continuation and maintenance of local unique geological relics, historical, cultural and ecological environment resources, and the entire "village" of Yanqing Winter Olympic Village uses layers of slope roofs, platforms and semi-open courtyards to form a dialogue with the surrounding mountainous water potential, forming a picture of a beautiful mountain village in Yanqing, China, which is in harmony with natural landscapes and historical sites.
In order to take good care of this green water and green mountains, Yanqing Racing District also implemented an ecological restoration project, which took 6 years to complete the ecological restoration area of 2.14 million square meters, and all precious trees were protected in situ and ex situ.
Keep in mind the safety and security instructions carefully guard the safety bottom line of the event
The National Alpine Ski Center is located in the southern foothills of Xiaohaituo Mountain in Yanqing District, Beijing, with its high altitude, undulating terrain, large ski track drops, and no experience to follow, which has become a "roadblock" for engineering construction.
"The mountain road is rugged and steep, and the transport vehicle cannot drive up the mountain, so we return to the original method of 'man carrying horses' to transport materials; the tank truck 'walks' without moving, we use the hook machine to relay the concrete to the top of the mountain; the mountain terrain is undulating, we introduce three-dimensional laser scanners and aerial survey drone measurements; the snow track height difference is large, and the snowmaking water is injected into the system through the underground comprehensive pipe corridor through the three-stage pump station." Zhang Jie, project manager of the National Alpine Ski Center of Beijing Urban Construction Group, led the team to find ways to overcome one difficulty after another.
It took 1277 days to build, and the National Alpine Ski Center was successfully completed. Seven pistes are like white waterfalls that meander from the top of the mountain to the valley, and the longest track is about 3 kilometers long and has a vertical drop of about 900 meters. This is the highest level alpine ski track in China, the only track in China that meets the standards of the Winter Olympic Games, and one of the most difficult alpine skiing tracks in the world.
On January 18, 2021, in the end area of the National Alpine Ski Center Competition, General Secretary Xi Jinping watched the demonstration of the center's protective net installation, ski track inspection, athlete rescue and other field support work and alpine ski competition training. General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out that safety is the bottom line that must be adhered to in major sports events. Alpine skiing is a "sport of the brave", and it is necessary to strengthen the safety guarantee in all aspects, grasp the construction of the management team, rescue force and facility maintenance team, improve the risk prevention measures such as epidemic prevention, fire prevention and accident prevention, and strengthen emergency drills to ensure that nothing goes wrong. I hope that everyone will train scientifically, pay attention to safety, take care of their health, improve their level, give full play to the advantages of participating in the "doorstep", and strive to achieve a breakthrough of zero medals in alpine skiing.

On December 30, 2019, the Beijing-Zhang high-speed railway, which is an important transportation support facility for the Beijing Winter Olympics, was opened to traffic, and the Chongli Railway was completed simultaneously, helping the coordinated development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and providing transportation operation service guarantee for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.
On January 20, 2021, General Secretary Xi Jinping presided over the work report meeting on the preparation of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, stressing that it is necessary to promote the coordinated development of Beijing,Tianjin and Hebei and strive to achieve more results in the fields of transportation, environment, industry and public services.
