In Lhasa in winter, the sky is getting darker, the residual temperature of the sun is gradually dissipating, and the chill is always reminding you of the plateau climate here. The old Barkhor street is at its first light, and this famous tourist road is particularly busy tonight. On both sides of the road, above the overpass, in addition to tourists wearing various types of stormtrooper suits, there are more religious people who go to the Jokhang Temple to worship. The Jokhang Temple, deep in The Street of Bakor, is crowded, and the cold after nightfall cannot resist the enthusiasm of worship.

December 12 is the fifteenth day of the tenth month of the Tibetan calendar, which is the annual traditional religious activity of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism, "Ganden Angkhai", also known as "Lantern Burning Day", which commemorates the death of Tsongkhapa, the founder of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism, to become a Buddha. On this special day, all Gelug temples will hold a grand lantern commemoration ceremony.

At about 7:30 p.m. that night, monks lit butter lamps on both sides of the road, around stupas, on the roofs of halls, on window sills, in indoor Buddhist halls, in shrines, on offering tables, and on steps where lamps could be lit. The flickering lights illuminated the Jokhang Temple, as well as the prayerful devotees on the prayer path. The faithful turned the prayer wheel, the pace was slow and solemn, and threw the large handful of pine branches in their hands into the simmering furnace. Rising white smoke, accompanied by rosin incense, accompanied by good life wishes, pervaded every corner of the Jokhang Temple, staining every believer.

At about 8:00 p.m., amid the chants of the Dharma, the Dharma, and the Golden Curse, dozens of Jokhang Monastery monks sang the "Ode to the Prayer of Master Tsongkhapa", "Tsongkhapa, the head of the Sages of the Snowy Land, I sincerely pray in front of your seat..." The believers on the prayer path also slowed down, and the elder believers quickly turned the prayer wheel and chanted loudly. Some young believers held aloft mobile phones, cameras, and some broadcast live broadcasts to record this solemn moment in real time. Believers of all ages have different things in their hands, but their voices are so consistent. The solemn and thick sound of the Dharma Instrument, accompanied by the sound of devotional chanting, resounded through the night sky.

The sound of the Dharma Instrument gradually subsided, but the sound of chanting still resounded above the path of the sutra. It was near midnight, and the faithful were still circling in circles along the path, and the scriptures were still being recited over and over again. In Lhasa at night, on the balconies and roofs of residents, butter lamps flash a little shimmer, a gust of wind passes, like stars twinkling, illuminating the entire city of Lhasa, warming the cold night, and the city of daylight has become a solemn city that never sleeps. Countless butter lamps are all over the streets and alleys of Lhasa, and the wish for happiness is like this beating flame, shining brightly, day and night, bright and beautiful.
