According to the Adobe Digital Price Index (DPI), the overall price of online goods rose 2.7 percent in January compared to the same period last year. Food prices rose by 5.8 per cent.

The data marks the 20th consecutive month of year-on-year inflation for online goods, with grocery and medical goods prices hitting record highs. Compared to the record holiday seasons of November and December last year, house prices rose by 3.5% and 3.1%, respectively.

Patrick Brown, vice president of growth marketing and insights at Adobe, said: "While falling prices for products such as electronics and clothing have led to a slight decline in online commodity inflation from last November's record high, consumers are still battling price increases in the digital economy. ”

The growth, Brown said, "is particularly pronounced among grocery items, as online prices for grocery items continue to set record numbers, while consumer demand for grocery items remains strong for online shopping." ”

Meanwhile, the price of online medical devices and supplies rose 8.2 percent year-over-year, marking "the highest annual increase in this category," according to Adobe.

In the report, Adobe said the increase "coincided with a surge in the New Coronavirus Omicron variant in January, which has driven greater demand for test kits in the context of overall supply constraints."

Overall, 13 of the 18 product categories tracked by Adobe grew year-over-year in January, "with clothing growing faster than any other category," Adobe said.

Compared to a year ago, only electronics, jewelry, books, toys and computers have fallen.
