Sketching, always on the road

——Several experiences of the creation method of oil painting realism

The term "sketching" is explained in the Concise Art Dictionary published by the Heilongjiang People's Publishing House as follows: "Directly depicting according to the actual object is called sketching." He also pointed out that it is an important way for beginners to learn painting, a basic means to exercise painting skills, and an important method for the expression of still life painting, landscape painting and portrait painting. In fact, the development of Western oil painting to the fifteenth century, oil painting by the Flanders painter Van Aike brothers invented, oil painting sketching has always been accompanied by the development of oil painting art, and has become an indispensable form of oil painting art. In the nearly one hundred years of history of Western oil painting into China, in the 1920s and 1930s, painters who returned from studying in the West and Japan, such as Yan Wenliang, Xu Beihong, Wei Tianlin, etc., most of the oil painting works brought back belong to the sketching works, even in the 1950s, the Russian painter Maximov hired by the Central Academy of Fine Arts held the course setting, a large amount of time is also in the indoor and outdoor portraits, male and female human bodies, landscapes, still life sketching and other basic training, which shows the importance of sketching in oil painting teaching.

When sketching is trained to a certain extent, it naturally transitions to the creative stage. What is creation? It is the creation of works of art. That is to say, to think about, process, summarize, refine, and create works of art with typical significance, including sketched characters and environmental data. There is no ready-made thing here that can be copied and imitated, and a large number of things must be obtained by on-site sketching, and even in the production of works, it must be copied according to real people to be completed step by step. Of course, a successful creation simply relies on solid modeling skills is not enough, but also to learn the aesthetic ideas obtained in painting sketching, aesthetic awareness, aesthetic orientation, aesthetic judgment to give full play to your image thinking and rich imagination, etc., you may succeed, it can be said that the modeling skills and expressiveness of oil painting can only be obtained through sketching.

Sketching is a form of oil painting with independent aesthetic value that has developed with the growth of oil painting art. In the creation of oil painting oil painting relies on the support of sketching, and the need to improve its own artistic life with the need to create oil painting, although now with the development of high technology, some aspects can replace sketching and completion, but the spiritual emotions and ideas are irreplaceable, after all, whether the work of art is created or sketched is the spiritual product of thought and emotion, separated from this important artistic essence, your creation and sketching will not have much vitality. Therefore, the sketching of oil painting is always on the road.
