Ministry of Transport: The Spring Festival is running smoothly and orderly, and 539 million passengers have been sent

At the press conference of the joint prevention and control mechanism of the State Council held on February 8, Han Jinghua, deputy director of the Department of Transport Services of the Ministry of Transport, said that since the start of the Spring Festival on January 17, the overall operation has been stable and orderly. The spring festival passenger flow shows the characteristics of "steady increase in passenger flow before the festival and low passenger flow during the festival".

Statistics show that as of February 7, the transportation sector sent a total of 539 million passengers, an increase of about 42.8% over the same period in 2021, less than 40% of the passenger flow in the same period of 2019 before the outbreak of the epidemic. Among them, there are 120 million passengers on railways, 390 million passengers on highways, 9.01 million passengers on waterways, and 18.89 million passengers in civil aviation.

Specifically, in the 15 days before the festival, that is, from January 17 to January 31, the average daily passenger flow was 26.48 million passengers, from the 25th to the 28th of the Waxing Moon (January 27 to January 30) into the peak period of passenger flow, the peak of passenger flow appeared on the 28th of January (January 30), 29.555 million person-times, in general, the distribution of pre-holiday passenger flow intensity tends to be balanced, the fluctuation range is not large, mainly in megacities or provincial capitals as the center to surrounding cities and major labor export provinces and cities to migrate.

Han Jinghua said that during the Spring Festival holiday, the national railway, highway, waterway and civil aviation sent 131 million passengers, an increase of 33.0% over the same period in 2021 and a decrease of 68.9% over the same period in 2019 (before the epidemic). Among them, the railway sent 30.775 million passengers, the highway sent 91.690 million passengers, the waterway sent 3.118 million passengers, and the civil aviation sent 5.010 million passengers.

Han Jinghua analyzed that overall, the Spring Festival holiday passenger flow showed a trend of "low before and high after", the lowest passenger flow appeared on February 1 (the first day of the first month), 11.346 million people; from February 2 to 4 (the second day of the first month to the fourth day of the first month), the passenger flow gradually increased, mainly to visit relatives and friends, urban peripheral tourism, rural markets and other short- and medium-distance travel; starting from February 5 (the fifth day of the first month), ushered in the holiday return passenger flow, mainly labor export provinces and cities and small and medium-sized cities to large cities and central cities. The peak passenger flow occurred on February 6 (the sixth day of the first lunar month), which was 27.422 million passengers. It is expected that from February 16 to 17, that is, the sixteenth and seventeenth day of the first month, there will be another peak in the return passenger flow.

It is understood that since the Spring Festival, transportation departments and practitioners in various places have been fighting in the front line of service guarantee, implementing various measures such as epidemic prevention and control, safe production, smooth communication and transportation guarantee, and the current Spring Festival operation is generally stable and orderly, with strong emergency support and stable safety situation.
