The water is rippling, the reeds on the shoals are like snow Please listen to what the birds say

Recently, the first page of the Xinhua Daily Telegraph published an article in a prominent position, saying: Since the beginning of winter, the scenery of the Yellow River Delta Nature Reserve in Shandong is more like the exquisite picture of the scenery film - between the ripples of the water, the reeds on the shoals are like snow, flocks of migratory birds or strolling comfortably, or spreading their wings and soaring, and the beautiful chirping sounds rise and fall one after another. This is the birds "saying": It's not good here.

Birds, do not understand the city. Never say good things smoothly, always "one says one, two says two", good is good, bad is bad. Well, the birds will fly from afar and come in groups to stay here for a while; Not good, even please can't please. Birds, always "speaking" with their own singing voice, with their own wings, with their own feet; They've been used, they've come, they've been here. The "words" spoken by the birds must be the truth, the truth; That's where the birds are cute.

Birds gather in the reserve: red-crowned cranes walk gracefully, white cranes, warty-nosed swans and white spoonbills are circling at low altitudes, and the reclusive oriental white storks are quietly guarding their nests most of the time except foraging for food. Yellow River Delta Nature Reserve, an area of 153,000 hectares, in 2013, the Yellow River Delta wetland was included in the list of wetlands of international importance by the International Wetland Convention Organization; In 2018, Dongying ranked among the first batch of "international wetland cities" in the world. The person in charge of the monitoring center said that the number of birds in the reserve has increased from 187 when the area was established to 371 now, of which 25 species are national first-level protected birds and 65 are second-level protected birds. The number of 38 species of birds exceeds the global total by 1%. Millions of birds migrate through here every year, some of them even overwintering and breeding here.

Zhao Yajie, a researcher in the reserve, said, "This is an important transit point for bird migration, with the reputation of 'bird international airport', and the peak migration period is extremely busy." "Of the nine bird migration routes around the world, 2 routes from East Asia to Australasia and the Western Pacific Rim pass through the Yellow River Delta. Birds have very harsh requirements for the living environment, poor habitat, food is not rich in taste, frightened and harassed, there is no sufficient "activity place" and so on, and even will fly away and never come back. Therefore, it is not an easy task to keep the birds; This "Birds Fall in Love with the Yellow River Estuary" scenery is the result of the protection priority, natural restoration, initiative and scientific efforts of the reserve for many years. Here, birds and nature, and humans, get along so well.

Birds play a great role in maintaining the ecological balance and protecting nature. Beneficial birds can control insect pests, gray magpies, burrows, swallows, etc. are insect exterminators, and woodpeckers are "forest doctors". Rat infestation is a major scourge in the forest, and owls are good rat catchers. Birds also forecast the agricultural season to people. Cuckoos fly to the south every March and April, calling a "hurry up - cuckoo", urging people to seize the spring ploughing production. Partridge chirping indicates that local farming has entered the wheat cutting season. People use the agricultural proverb "Partridge first song, cut wheat and cut grass" to guide production. The beautiful feathers of birds, the gentle and loud chirping, and various legends about birds are the themes of the literati inker chanting.

In the book of Poetry, a collection of poems written in the Spring and Autumn Period, the mainland mentions more than 30 kinds of birds. Birds not only enter poetry, but also have gorgeous feathers and handsome demeanor, and are also the objects of ancient and modern painters. Mandarin ducks playing in the water, pine cranes extending their lives, eagles striking the long sky, magpies climbing plums, etc. are common painting scenes. In the modern folk music of the mainland, "Birds Throwing into the Forest", "Birds on the Empty Mountain", "Hundred Birds And Phoenixes", etc., depict the moving scene of hundreds of birds fighting in the Spring Festival. The peacock dance of the Dai people in Yunnan, the white crane dance of the Bai ethnic group, the skylark dance of the Naxi ethnic group, the white bird dance of the Hani ethnic group, the quail dance of the Lahu ethnic group, the Golden Sparrow dance of the Tibetan ethnic group, etc.; It is a dance movement created by humans imitating birds.

Some people say this: In this world, if there are no birds, the vast long sky will be full of emptiness, the lush forests will be silent, and the ecology will be unbalanced; If there are no birds, literature and art will lose a lot of interest and charm; If there is no bird, the child's heart will be less joyful. Humans and birds have long become friends who are "inseparable and inseparable"; In this sense, to protect birds and restore ecology is to protect human beings and to help ourselves. People and birds can also be regarded as a "community of destiny".

Do you understand what the birds say? We must thank the Shandong Yellow River Delta Nature Reserve for its efforts in solidly promoting a series of ecological protection and restoration projects, contributing to the healthier ecosystem, and further enhancing the exploration of biodiversity. The gathering of hundreds of birds in the reserve is an affirmation, a kind of gratitude, and a picture of harmony and friendship between birds and humans. (Tang Jianfeng)
