According to Women in 3D Printing, women make up only 11% of the overall additive manufacturing (AM) industry. Laura Griffiths, TCT Group's red-haired beauty editor-in-chief, interviewed several female leaders who started their careers in the field of additive.

The fourth story of Women in 3D Printing comes from Marie Langer, CEO of EOS in Germany.

In October 2019, on the occasion of EOS's 30th anniversary, Marie succeeded as the helmsman of EOS, focusing on strategic positioning, marketing and communications, and corporate culture, organization and people development. Prior to that, Langer held various positions in EOS management and its Supervisory Board, including leading the EOS AM Venture Capital Fund and being responsible for corporate and business development across the EOS Group, where diversification became one of the strategic pillars of EOS.

For Marie Langer, her knowledge of additive manufacturing stemmed from her father, Dr. Hans J. Langer, founder of EOS. Under the influence of the family atmosphere, Marie has been at the dinner table every day since she was a child to listen to her father share some interesting stories about the additive manufacturing industry.

"Corporate culture is very important to me," says Marie, "my father always said that corporate culture is inseparable from business strategy. I've spent a lot of time in other roles at EOS researching corporate culture topics and figuring out how to work more closely with peers and customers on a global scale. Because we have headquarters not only in Germany, but also in the USA and Asia. As a leader in the 3D printing industry, how to truly present these cultural convergences and coordinate our internal organizations with them is the direction of my future efforts. ”

Marie mentions Monika Gessler, a female engineer at EOS who joined EOS's materials development department in 2000 and was one of 18 female employees across the company at the time.

At that time, the company's strategy was to focus on powder-based polymer laser sintering technology, and customers had begun to think about using additive manufacturing technology to go beyond rapid prototyping to mass manufacturing. Monika was the only woman present at many customer matchmaking meetings who insisted on changing the direction of the business with the diverse needs of its clients.

Marie's heart was so impressive that, years later, Marie still believes that diversity drives productivity and innovation, and the CEO envisions building a team with complementary skills dedicated to shaping a new future of manufacturing together.

As the first three panelists said, Marie believes that education plays an important role in realizing the vision of more women joining the additive manufacturing industry.

At this point, the Women in 3D Printing special edition will come to an end, we sincerely welcome domestic enterprises engaged in 3D printing academic research and business management women to share your experience and stories with us, please contact: [email protected]
