In the early morning of February 10, Beijing time, the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) announced the list of new academicians.
The U.S. Academy of Engineering is one of the four national academic institutions in the United States (the other three are the National Academy of Sciences NAS, the National Academy of Medicine NAM, and the National Science Foundation NSF).

The 2022 class of engineering consists of 111 members and 22 foreign academicians. NAE Chairman John M. Anderson announced today that the total number of U.S. members and 310 international members has reached 2,388 after the addition of this issue. The qualifications of the new fellows will take effect at the U.S. Academy of Engineering Annual Meeting on October 2, 2022.

Musk was named a Fellow of the American Academy of Engineering for breakthroughs in the design, engineering, manufacturing, and operation of reusable launch vehicles, sustainable transportation, and energy systems.
In addition, Chinese representatives such as Zhang Hongjiang, chairman of Beijing Zhiyuan Artificial Intelligence Research Institute, were also selected as foreign academicians.

Chairman of Beijing Zhiyuan Artificial Intelligence Research Institute, former chief technology officer of Microsoft Asia Pacific R&D Group, partner of Beijing Source Code Capital Investment. He was the CEO of Kingsoft, the CTO of Microsoft Asia Pacific R&D Group, the president of Microsoft Asia Engineering Institute, the vice president of Microsoft Research Asia, and became the first batch of "outstanding scientists" of Microsoft. Cao, Jian
Position: Professor, Cardiss Collins, McCormick School of Engineering, Northwestern University
Reason for selection: Pioneered the flexible sheet forming system, which is a leader in the manufacturing industry.
Professor Cao Jian's main research interests include innovative manufacturing processes and systems, particularly in the areas of deformation-based processes and laser processes. Her work has made a fundamental contribution to characterizing the effects of material structure on the molding behavior of metals and woven composites. Her research integrates analytical and numerical simulation methods, control and sensors, and design methods to advance the manufacturing process.
Fang Daining (Foreign Academician)
Position: Honorary Dean and Chief Scientist of the Institute of Advanced Structural Technology, Beijing Institute of Technology
Reason for selection: Contribution to the mechanics and lightweight multifunctional structure of ferroelectric / ferromagnetic materials under extreme conditions.
Professor Fang received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Nanjing University of Technology in 1982 and 1986 and his Ph.D. from Technion in 1993. In 2013, Fang Daining was elected an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Professor Fang Daining is mainly engaged in the theoretical, computational and experimental research of advanced materials and structural mechanics. Expands the macro-microscopic deformation and fracture theory of ferroelectric/ ferromagnetic materials, and is applied in finite element analysis and device design. It has developed advanced materials and structural forces electromagnetic heat multi-field multi-scale computational mechanics methods and design preparation methods, and the research results have been applied to high-end equipment structures such as the first international additive manufacturing satellite and the first domestic rail transit equipment main bearing special-shaped composite suspension structure. Reason for election: Bringing organic electronic materials into aqueous media opens up new directions in biomedicine, environmental monitoring, sensors and electronics.
Professor Liu Bin graduated from Nanjing University with bachelor's and master's degrees and obtained his PhD in chemistry from the National University of Singapore. He joined the National University of Singapore as an Assistant Professor in 2005 and was promoted to Professor in 2016. He is currently a Fellow of the Singapore Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences of Singapore, a Fellow of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Materials Sciences and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. Professor Liu Bin is a leader in the field of organic functional materials, and her contributions to the application of polymer chemistry and organic nanomaterials in biomedical research, environmental monitoring and energy equipment are widely recognized.

Yushan Yan received her B.A. from the University of Science and Technology of China in 1988 and her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the California Institute of Technology. He is currently the Henry B. du Pont Chair of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Delaware.

Taiyin Yang received his B.S. in Chemistry from National Taiwan University and his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Southern California. Prior to joining Gilead in 1993, Taiyin Yang worked at Syntex Corp. Worked in analytical chemistry.
