Wang Houyu (1925—2022)
He is a well-known industrial and civil building electrical technology expert, consultant of the International Electrotechnical Commission IEC/TC60364 (now the domestic code TC205) China Focal Point Committee and the National Building Electrical Installation Standardization Technical Committee. He graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering of Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1949. Committed to the promotion of international electrician standards for low-voltage electrical devices. Footprint in 28 provinces and cities, has made outstanding contributions to improving the technical level of electrical installations in mainland buildings.
He worked as a Russian translator in the army, and after changing careers, he worked as a translator, technician, electrical professional team leader and electrical supervisor engineer in the Aviation Industry Planning and Design Institute. He has participated in the design of 156 projects in the "First Five-Year Plan" period of the mainland and the planning and design of large-scale foreign projects, and has represented the mainland in international electricians conferences for many times.
He has written more than 200 articles on building electrical, of which the article "Analysis and Countermeasure Suggestions for the Main Hidden Dangers of Electrical Fires" was included in China's "White Paper on Natural Disaster Mitigation in 2000" and distributed at the National People's Congress in 2000.
He has participated in the compilation of national standards such as "Design Code for Power Supply and Distribution System", "Design Code for Low-voltage Distribution", "Code for Fire Protection of Hangar Design" and participated in the preparation of "Industrial and Civil Power Distribution Design Manual". His personal monographs include "Design, Installation and Inspection of Low-voltage Electrical Devices", "500 Questions on Building Electrical Installations", and "600 Questions on Building Electrical Installations".
Mr. Wang Houyu is the author of the largest number of articles (47 articles) written by Building Electrical magazine since its inception in 1981.

The death of Wang Lao is a major loss to the mainland electrical community, but he has left a very important and valuable asset to the electrical industry, especially he helped to benchmark the mainland with IEC standards and change the original Soviet standard system of continental building electrical. Consulting CNKI, Wang Lao's academic papers totaled 117 (should be incomplete statistics), which are high-quality scientific and technological achievements and valuable knowledge wealth left to future generations.
