To Future Penpals – Is Cinema Art? 》

Hello dear art lovers.

If you don't like body art, we can talk about art. But it's best that you don't like the ordinary version of the "art of love", which will make me feel that your mind is not mature enough.

There are many forms of art, including painting, sculpture, music, poetry and so on. Some people say that cinema is the eighth or seventh art, and I have some doubts about that. If an art is too easy to appreciate, its artistry may be greatly reduced. You're probably more familiar with artists than I am. Is this kind of person who calls pornography art really an artist? Maybe in the future it may really develop into art, and there are artists in related fields, but now I think their performances are still very vulgar. One way to judge is actually very simple, you can show this kind of art to the child, if they have a noble emotion, get spiritual pleasure, then it means art. You can take your kids to the art gallery, but you don't take them to dance halls, strip clubs.

The movie, a little bit of this taste. Perhaps at the beginning, the temperament of the film is noble. But today's movies, we know very well, are designed to entertain the masses and make money for businessmen. There are indeed some filmmakers with artistic temperament. But that's mostly because they don't have the means to make money through movies. Making movies is a big project, and only the best directors can't get good movies, and only the best actors can't get them. If film is art, then he is also the art of cooperation. Finally, because it costs a lot, it has to make money. The purpose of cinema is more straightforward than other arts, whether it is a writer, director or actor, all of which are made to make money as the first priority. Projects that integrate multiple people, if they can't make money, how can they attract workers.

As the film industry grew, artistry became less and less important. As long as it can make the audience happy and let people into the cinema, the movie will be successful. Commercial films cater to audiences, not inspire them. Those films that express artistic sense and ideas through films are not only rare, but also cannot be widely disseminated. If good art and good ideas cannot be disseminated, then what is the value of this carrier of film? Most people can't understand Beethoven, but that doesn't stop beetle that Beethoven was a great musician. He is an artist recognized by history, but in the art of cinema, can we name a few great directors? Probably only people who major in film can find a few excellent directors in film history who are not known to the public.

Future films will probably only become more entertaining, not real art.

As an art film, it can only be a second-rate art.
