German Foreign Minister Visits Israel The two sides have serious differences on whether to resume the Iranian nuclear agreement

author:Bright Net

On the 10th local time, German Foreign Minister Berberk visited Israel. Israeli Prime Minister Bennett and Foreign Minister Rapid held talks with him successively. According to a press release issued by the Israeli Prime Minister's Office on the afternoon of the 10th, Israeli Prime Minister Bennett said during a meeting with Bell burke that signing a nuclear agreement with Iran was a mistake and would pose a threat to the entire region. He stressed that for the ongoing negotiations on a new round of JCPOA negotiations, a clear deadline must be set for the negotiations, otherwise the extension of the negotiations will only unilaterally satisfy Iran's interests.

On the afternoon of the 10th, Israeli Foreign Minister Rapid and German Foreign Minister Berberk held a brief joint press conference. Speaking about the negotiations on the Iranian nuclear agreement, Rapid once again stressed that Iran's nuclear program endangers not only Israel, but also the entire world. In this regard, German Foreign Minister Berberk said that the current negotiations on the JCPOA on Iran are entering the "final stage", and although Israel has reservations, the resumption of the JCPOA will make the Middle East, including Israel, safer.

Referring to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Berberk expressed Germany's belief that a negotiated two-state solution remains the best solution to the Palestinian-Israeli problem, and that it believes that the construction of Jewish settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory is not in conformity with international law. In response, Rapid responded that the current Israeli government "will not advance the construction of Jewish settlements that undermine the two-state plan" and will only maintain "the natural expansion of existing settlement houses."

Iran signed the JCPOA with the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Russia, China and Germany in 2015. Under the deal, Iran restricts its nuclear activities, and the United Nations, the United States and the European Union lift economic sanctions against Iran.

In May 2018, the United States unilaterally withdrew from the Iranian nuclear agreement, and then restarted and increased sanctions against Iran. Since May 2019, Iran has gradually suspended the implementation of some of the provisions of the JCPOA, but promised that such measures are "reversible".

The parties to the JCPOA began talks in Vienna last April. The eighth round of talks began on December 27 last year, was suspended on January 28 this year, and resumed on February 8.
