Tesla recalled nearly 580,000 vehicles in the United States: car horn sounds such as goat cries will be disabled

Tesla is recalling nearly 580,000 vehicles in the United States because the "Boombox" out-of-the-box function may affect pedestrian safety.

On February 10, local time, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said that the "Boombox" function of Tesla vehicles allows vehicles to play sounds through external speakers while driving, which violates federal safety standards that require electric vehicles to emit pedestrian warning noise.

It is reported that "Boombox" is tesla's upgrade of the car function during christmas 2020, which allows the driver to change the car horn sound, and the owner can choose the sound of goats, farts and so on to replace the normal car horn sound. In addition, owners can also play music in the car through external speakers, and owners can upload five custom songs while driving a Tesla while playing their favorite music outside the car.

The recall totaled 578607 units, covering the Model S, Model X, Model Y produced in the U.S. market in 2020-2022 and model 3 produced in 2017-2022. This issue will be resolved through an online OTA upgrade and the "Boombox" feature will be disabled.

NHTSA mentioned that because the noise emitted by electric vehicles when driving is very small, the various sounds emitted by the "Boombox" through external speakers may affect the judgment of pedestrians, making it impossible for pedestrians to realize that there is a vehicle approaching.

According to foreign media reports, Tesla has had at least 10 recalls since October 2021. Just two days ago, Tesla recalled 27,000 vehicles for a software issue that could cause the cabin heating system to fail to defrost the windshield fast enough. This issue will also be resolved through an OTA online upgrade.
