Fifty years of ingenuity breeding only for China's good cows

For people born in the 1960s and 1970s, it is the happiest thing to be able to drink half a pound of pure milk every day as a child. Now the pure milk, yogurt, and ice cream in any supermarket and mall are all on the shelves, and all kinds of dairy products are available at hand, with colorful flavors, dazzling and dazzling. Dairy products range from single to diverse and versatile, intuitively reflecting the vigorous development of China's dairy industry. Good cows produce good milk, and the continuous improvement of raw milk production and quality has witnessed the earth-shaking changes in China's dairy cattle breeding industry.

Beijing Dairy Cow Center has a history of nearly 50 years, the center has long been committed to the independent breeding of China's excellent breeding bulls and the genetic improvement of dairy cattle population, the establishment of China's independent intellectual property rights of the breeding system of cattle, breaking through the foreign fine breeds on the development of China's dairy industry constraints.

It took 30 years to achieve a breakthrough in dairy cow breeding 1.0 with traditional breeding technology as the core of descendant determination, to dairy cow breeding 2.0 based on the 'MOET' breeding system based on modern breeding technology, and then to dairy cow breeding upgraded version 3.0 based on 'genome' selection technology. Since 2000, the cumulative promotion of high-quality frozen semen of dairy cows has exceeded 20.5 million, and the total number of dairy cows in the country has exceeded 20 million, which has promoted the yield of dairy cattle from less than 3 tons in 2000 to 8.3 tons in 2020. The yield of the core group has also increased from 7 tons to 12 tons, which plays an important role in the genetic improvement of the national dairy cattle population and the overall production level of the cattle herd. At the same time, it has been 30 years since it insisted on providing counterpart assistance to Tibet.

During the 13th Five-Year Plan period, it took the lead in establishing a quality and safety testing platform for breeding cattle genetic material in China; through pedigree traceability, genetic screening, milk verification, and the first domestic A2-β casein milk production technology system, it helped A2 milk to be listed in 2017; in 2019, it explored the characteristic germplasm resources of Beijing, developed Kappa casein characteristic milk source products, and took the lead in taking the industrialization innovation mode of breeding, breeding and terminal products in China.

In 2016, he led the establishment of the "Dairy Cattle Breeding Independent Innovation Alliance" innovation system with deep integration of government, industry, education and research. The Alliance has developed and published the "UTPI Comprehensive Selection Index", which has an overall assessment reliability level of the same level as that of dairy developed countries, which is the only breeding choice index for cattle in the domestic industry in addition to the official CPI selection index. In 2018, the alliance UTPI index platform was first launched nationwide, the new super energy freezing technology was officially released in 2019, and the first high-density liquid phase chip for independent breeding of dairy cows in China was initially successfully established in 2021.

In the next step, the alliance will start to establish a dairy cattle breeding innovation consortium, adhere to the release of China's own dairy cattle breeding index UTPI, focus on the chip card neck problem, take the road of independent breeding, and win the battle of the seed industry.
