The fundamental role of art is to carry the tao, not the aesthetic - Lawrence's "No One Loves Me"

author:City read books

I noticed that this book still originated from Dark Horse Teacher, who is the translator of the book, and we are all mixed in a community. Out of curiosity about Lawrence, and also trusting the recommendation of The Dark Horse Teacher, he carefully read the book.

The book includes many of Lawrence's famous works published during his lifetime, such as "Miscellaneous Notes on the Mines of Nottingham", "A Debate for the lover of Mrs. Chaterley <>", "Pornography and Obscenity", and some prose works that the author only met with readers after his death, such as "No One Loves Me", "Lips and Teeth On Men and Women", and "Substance".

In these works, Lawrence sometimes talks about religious beliefs, sometimes talks about gender relations, sometimes passionately points out the country, and while showing his literary talent, he also shows the unique vision of a thinker.

The fundamental role of art is to carry the tao, not the aesthetic - Lawrence's "No One Loves Me"

My impression of Lawrence is more on his novels, such as "Rainbow", "Madame Chatterley's Lover", "The Woman in Love", etc., love and sex have always run through his works, making people feel different from other writers.

As a creator and critic, Lawrence's creative philosophy itself is not difficult to understand, he said: "The fundamental role of art is to carry the way, not aesthetic, gambling, leisure and pleasure." ”

A good work, that is, a way that the reader can accept, penetrates the resonance of the author's expectations, and this process should be beautiful, natural, and pleasant. Love is the normal human condition, sex is the instinct of love, and in Lawrence's view, there is nothing wrong with carrying the word in this way.

"Novels and Feelings", an unpublished essay by Lawrence during his lifetime, clearly illustrates his intentions in choosing the subject matter of his works:

"If all the horses were suddenly left unattended, they would go wild; suppose, if they were to be circled, they would go mad." The latter situation is where man's dilemma lies... Man must first tame himself before he can learn to get rid of it. But we cannot deny and depose feelings just because we want to become civilized. ”

In "Son and Lover", "Rainbow", and "Woman in Love", Lawrence boldly confronts the instinctive emotions of human beings, and conflicts and dilemmas reflect the vitality of life, the vision of freedom, and the corresponding cold and indifferent criticism of industrialization.

In the most controversial "Lady Chatterley's Lover", this tear finally ushers in an optimistic ending, lawrence's solution is hidden in hope - the emotional line is full of metaphors, but in the end, the reader's interest in the protagonist's emotional belonging is far less hostile to human civilization and the future order.

The essay collection of the same name, "Nobody Loves Me", and the other two "Lips and Teeth On Men and Women" and "Essence" can be called Lawrence's masterpieces, which died before they were published after being cast at one time. If you can't avoid love for a lifetime, how can there be a sigh of "no one loves me"?

After reading it, it is more understandable that Lawrence cares not about the obvious love desire in his works, but the "human love" glimpsed from the small love. "In our relationships with others and other things, we acquire our own personality."

However, the contradiction of human nature is that on the one hand, instinctive love and sexual secrecy are deep, and on the other hand, the love of the universe is regarded as pretentious. Forgetting that love should be a naturally self-aware feeling, the meaning and balance of life.

Men and women in the world are dependent on each other, and there is love in all living beings, how can this love be spoken and given a deeper core? In this regard, the novelist Lawrence, the playwright Lawrence, and the painter Lawrence never forgot the poet's heart.

According to the translator Dark Horse, Lawrence has "the ability to talk to himself and make it into a chapter", making readers "listen to the heavens". In fact, this kind of philosophy pushed by lonely introspection and everything in the world is also ancient in China, and the text carries the Tao, and it is an early comer. The most prestigious is Han Changli, who is straightforward and bold in exciting words, and the image of literary fighters is deeply rooted in the hearts of the people.

But Han Gong's anecdotes are more grounded, according to legend, the Chaozhou water cloth began with him, Gai because the women reflected that the naked work of the rehearsal workers are offensive, and a narrow cloth around the waist strings together life and culture, which is really a subtlety and a poem.

How could Lawrence's intentions be unknown? Gentle and frank, Lawrence's words are more popular with readers today than they were a hundred years ago. We have less prejudice and more thought about the universal love in Lawrence's novels, and understand his attachments and worries.

However, on closer inspection, Lawrence, who is often misunderstood but arrogant in "NoBody Loves Me", is also very cute.
