Gold Rush Years – My Memories of the African Gold Rush

(ii)

One day in the capital of Ghana

The time difference is 8 hours later than in China

Coming out of the steamer-like accra waiting hall (I later learned that it was because of the guidance of the immigration officer at Ghana Airport that I passed the immigration check so quickly and smoothly, helped me fill in the documents, walked the VIP channel, of course, the money had already been given to their leaders. )

Putting the suitcase in the Mitsubishi pickup truck, I hurried into the cab where the air conditioner had been open, and the sweat that was soaking through my body immediately disappeared. (Who ever thought this brand new Mitsubishi pickup truck would be my car every day for years to come)

There was not enough to eat on the plane, it was past noon, it was indeed hungry, we went to the hotel near the airport, settled in the accommodation, and prepared to go out to find a restaurant to eat.

The translator who received me was our investment partner Ma Zong, a high-achieving student at a university in China, who was once an official of the ghana office of a Chinese construction company, resigned and cooperated with us to invest in gold mining, he was responsible for translating and handling exchanges and contacts with the local government and the chief, and we contributed capital equipment and personnel.

Walking out of the hotel, I was greeted by crowded traffic and black people walking along the road with baskets on top of their heads, most of the cars were dilapidated, the roads were hardened only on the main road, the whole capital, almost no high-rise buildings could be seen, most of them were pieces of tin houses, the economic level was similar to China's 20s and 30s, and later I learned that the gap between the rich and the poor in this country is particularly large.

With the scorching sun overhead, we found a nearby Chinese restaurant. I simply ordered a few dishes and drank some beer. Chinese hotels are considered to be local investment projects, and the consumer group is mainly for domestic businessmen and tourists.

Cedi is a Ghanaian coin, and the conversion to the renminbi at that time was 1 cedi = about 5 yuan.

After eating, did not come to the rush to take a look, after all, this is the capital of the country, always think of a lot of good-looking attractions, go back to the hotel.

Take a shower, get sleepy, fall asleep.
