On September 26th, the long-established Dabei Photo Gallery celebrated its 100th anniversary, and the Dabei Centennial Photography Exhibition was exhibited on Qianmen Street, which exhibited portraits taken by the Dabei Photo Gallery from 1921 to 2021 in turn, recording the light and shadow of the centenary with the lens.
Founded in 1921 and opened in Shihutong, Dabei Photo Studio was famous in Beijing for being good at shooting costume photos, and was a well-known "Chinese time-honored brand" in the national photo industry, and one of the earliest photo studios in China.
Walking into the Great North Centennial Photography Exhibition, it is like walking into a time tunnel. The exhibition takes the history of the Great North Photo Studio as a clue, from the early days of the establishment of the store, the public-private partnership to the period of rapid development, the costume photos of the 40s, the family portraits of the 50s, the portraits of the 60s, and the wedding photos of the late 70s, etc., the photos are delicate and warm.
Before the 1990s, when photography technology was not yet developed, many of the first photos of old Beijing's life were taken in Dabei. Sun Xiaochen, a 36-year-old Beijinger who lives in the Zhenwu Temple, has been taking birthday photos at the Dabei Photo Studio since he was 1 year old, and on the same day, he specially brought his birthday photo album. "It's a special gift every year on my birthday." He said.
Over the past hundred years, generations of Dabei photography technicians have passed on their ingenuity, culture and spirit. At the centennial celebration on the same day, the Great North Photo Studio presented the skill inheritance award to the old technicians of the photo studio, Qu Jianping, Zhao Qiangxing, Luo Bingchen and Li Jun, the old technicians of the photo studio, and the model workers of Beijing.
Zhao Qiangqiang is a retired veteran employee of the Great North Photo Studio with more than 40 years of working experience. Over the years, he has immersed himself in photography technology, so that every photo is refined, and in 2010, he was rated as a model worker in Beijing, which is a banner of Dabei photography. "We will inherit the spirit of craftsmen, pass on the superb skills and heart-warming service, and better serve the people." A young photographer at the Great North Photo Studio said.
