CAVALIERS: Because Irving refused to get vaccinated, the Nets refused to offer an early contract extension

Live Bar Feb. 4 Today, Cavaliers reporter Joe Vardon posted about Owen.

Irving currently has a 1+1 contract with the Nets left (36.5 million player options next season), and he can renew his contract early with the team or jump out of his contract this offseason to become a full free agent.

In October last year, the Nets reportedly refused to offer him an early contract extension because Irving refused to be vaccinated, affecting the status of the season, which could theoretically be signed for up to $187 million for four years.

If Irving doesn't execute the player option this summer, he could probably sign with another team.
