Qatar Airways Cargo launches carbon calculator online tool

author:Civil Aviation Resource Network

Civil Aviation Resource Network February 3, 2022 news: A few days ago, Qatar Airways Cargo officially launched a simple and easy-to-use carbon emission calculator online tool, so that customers can determine the carbon emissions of their cargo air freight.

Qatar Airways Cargo believes that environmental sustainability, particularly decarbonisation, has been at the heart of its corporate strategy. In November 2021, it became the first cargo airline to join the International Air Transport Association (IATA) CO2NNECT platform and has since been working to develop a fully integrated carbon offset solution for its customers. With the launch of the carbon calculator online tool, it is the first step towards reaching a milestone.

Qatar Airways Cargo customers who want to know what the environmental impact of their cargo by air can use this carbon calculator to find out now. The calculator is accessible via the airline's official website (www.qrcargo.com/calculate-emissions) and allows users to enter the origin, destination, flight date and weight of the cargo to get different flight options and their respective carbon emissions.

This full-featured carbon calculator was developed based on the methodology published by the International Aviation Association for offsetting schemes: it automatically takes into account factors such as aircraft type, route-specific data and passenger and cargo load factors. The calculator is the first step in developing a fully integrated cargo carbon offset solution for Qatar Airways Cargo customers. Eventually, the information tool will be integrated into the online booking process and offer customers a choice of carbon offset projects. The IATA CO2NNECT project will ensure that the credits purchased to offset emissions come from projects that provide verified carbon reductions and broader environmental and social benefits.
