Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin laid a wreath to mark the 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday, the city of Derry. On 30 January, hundreds of Northern Irish people took part in a "Bloody Sunday" commemoration march and mourning, asking the British government to trace those responsible for the incident. On 30 January 1972, British troops opened fire on the marchers in the city of Derry, Northern Ireland, killing 14 people. The incident became a turning point in Northern Ireland's break with Protestant pro-British elements, triggering more than 40 years of terrorist violence, with at least 3,500 people killed in assassinations and clashes.
