The movie Happy Texas/A Cage of Silly Birds Happy, Texas (1999) is an American DVD cover

Happy Texas/A Cage of Silly Birds Happy, Texas (1999) isn't a blockbuster blockbuster, but it's definitely a highly entertaining work, with a brilliant plot conception and the actors' excellent comedic performances.

Identity swapping and homosexuality are the film's two main comedy sources, embodied in Little Wayne (steve Zahn) and Harry (Jeremy Northam) and Harry (Jeremy Northam).

Grumpy fugitives train little girls to participate in performance contests and even sew clothes and hats for the little girls; fugitives who are not gay have to pretend to be gay, not only to be regarded by beautiful women as "close friends" of the same sex or "asexual", but also to deal with the gay sheriff (William F. Kennedy). H. Macy's pursuit of William H. Macy, it's no wonder the two fugitives are almost unbearable.

The film differs from the British story of I and The Long Fingernails With Long Fingernails and I (1987), when two downcast London actors struggled to get rid of drugs, alcoholism and depravity in the final months of the 1960s to see the beauty of lake district, and unlike the gay "old wives" of Reinado and Albin in France's "A Cage of Fools/False Phoenix La Cage Aux Folles" (1978).

Happy Texas tried to make bold attempts at genres like black humor or action, but it didn't quite achieve the desired effect.

In the Texas prison, the fraudster Harry, the car thief Wayne Jr., and the murderer Mandel (played by M.C. Genny) are chained together, and the hot-tempered Little Wayne and Mandel do not say a word to mandel, and the three escape through a car accident on the way to the confinement room, Mandel opens the handcuffs and leaves alone, Harry and Little Wayne still escape together.

Harry and Little Wayne stole a station wagon, and it just so happened that the owner was tired of traveling and didn't want to get the car back at all, just waiting for insurance compensation after a few weeks without calling the police.

The two men uncuffed and prepared to flee, but were discovered by the town sheriff, who thought they would be arrested by the sheriff, who mistakenly thought they were the owners of the car, the training teacher hired by the town to participate in the children's beauty pageant, so he brought them back to the town.

In order not to be exposed, they had to accept their new identities as "gay couples": performance designer Steve and David, who were forced to accept the task: to train the town's little girls to participate in the "Little Princess" talent show competition across Texas.

In order to get paid, to escape the police, and even more to find the rich town bank, Harry persuaded Little Wayne to stay.

Little Wayne is forced to train the little girls, while Harry finds an opportunity to approach the bankwoman Joe (Played by Ellie Walker), who becomes Joe's "girlfriend" as a gay man.

In the above plot, screenwriters Ed Stone and Mark Ayersley Mark Illsley use the most basic elements of dramatic conflict: misplaced identities and self-righteous love to achieve comedic effect. So what keeps the film going is not really dependent on the rhythm of the plot. In Happy Texas, a comedy about human nature, everything he does will be taken for granted by the audience.

While they wait for the opportunity to rob the bank, everything slowly changes: the grumpy and profanity of little Wayne gradually adapts to the training work, Harry gradually falls in love with Joe, who begins to grow old in the waiting love, and what is even more surprising is that the town sheriff is also a deeply hidden gay, and he falls in love with Harry, who has a "broken relationship" with Little Wayne.

The sheriff asks Harry out on a date, only to spend an evening in a cowboy gay bar, with Harry following behind, and the sheriff takes him and says "Now I'm going to turn you around!" ”。

As the contest approaches, Little Wayne and the children's female teacher, Shaffer (Illena Douglas), fall in love after passing the preliminaries in ecstasy and wild passion, and Harry decides to give up the robbery and leave the town because he can't get Joe, at which point Mandel suddenly appears and coerces them into robbing the bank with him.

In order to protect Joe and protect the town, Harry had to cooperate with this murderer, hoping that he would only rob and not kill. Just as the contest was in progress, Harry helped Mandel into the bank and used his time to report to the federal police, but just as he and Little Wayne were about to escape, they suddenly found Joe walking into the bank, and Harry, who was afraid that Joe would be killed, had to rush into the bank.

The town sheriff is sadly passing by the bank after being rejected by Harry, and when he finds Mandel's car without a license plate, he rushes into the bank, and during the melee, Mandel holds Joe hostage and escapes, while Harry and Wayne and the federal police chase after him.

Mandel escapes into the venue of the competition, but is unexpectedly put down by the little girls "trained" by Little Wayne, and the police not only catch Mandel, but also do not let Harry and Little Wayne go.

The children of the town come to the prison for a condolence performance, and the female teachers Shafer and Joe also come to visit Little Wayne and Harry respectively, and the two men are full of expectations and strive to get out of prison as soon as possible.

William H. H. Messi plays a sullen, love-hungry sheriff in Happy Texas, one of the most touching characters in the film, in which he gets the laughter of the audience by searching for the truth behind the matter.

The "Happy Texas" script, co-written by director Mark Airsley and screenwriter Ed Stone, makes it feel like... Combined. Each sitcom-style plot is perfectly amplified into the best "entertainment" in the film, and the characters in the film react to it entirely to adapt to the manipulated plot, not their own characters.

For example, Harry put all the work of training and making the "Little Princess" talent show competition to the clueless little Wayne alone. However, what were these people thinking when it became apparent to the people of town that little Wayne not only didn't know what he was doing, but that he was actually scaring all the little girls he was supposed to tutor?

"Happy Texas" is a wonderful low-budget comedy, there are still many hilarious scenes, especially the short-tempered fugitive Little Wayne training little girls to participate in talent contests and the small town sheriff exposing his homosexual identity, and the extreme incongruity between identity and behavior causes a strong comedic effect.

Similar to many American independent production films, the film first has a good idea (identity swap + homosexuality), then it is to add a little life feeling and inspiration to the whole story, and then it is to complete a low-cost but brainy script, of course, and finally wait for the eyes of the hero.

Watching low-budget independent films in the United States, almost all can feel the creative efforts of the choreographer and the script, which should also be regarded as a useful supplement to the mainstream Hollywood big production "money is too much brainless".
