With wavy black shiny hair, fashionable short skirts and stockings, and high heels full of lust, Marlena came to the quiet sunny town of Sicily. Her every move is eye-catching and evocative, and her smile makes men intoxicated and women envious. Marlena, like a goddess, conquered this paradise on the seashore.
Marlena
Despite the constant gossip, Marlena has been loyal to her husband. And Renato quietly fell in love with this woman, tracking and peering into her life, falling into erotic fantasies.
The townspeople of the town avoidEd Marlena because of her beauty. Marlena's life is getting harder and harder.
Marlena regularly visits her father, a deaf Latin professor, to help him clean the housework. Yet a defamatory letter has struck their relationship to a freezing point. Just then, the fighting worsened, the town was bombed, and Marlena's father was killed. Marlena, who had lost her asylum, suddenly became the target of public criticism. The wife of the local dentist accused Marlena of having an affair with her husband, but Marlena was acquitted. In court, the judge told Marlena that her beauty made the rest of the town uneasy and threatening. After the court, Marlena's lawyer coerced Marlena into having a relationship with him with high legal fees. But Renato saw it all.
Marlena's poverty eventually forced her to become a prostitute. When the Nazi Germans came to town, she also entertained them. When Renato saw Marlena with two German officers, he fainted. Renato's mother, believing him to be possessed, took him to church to exorcise him. But Renato's enlightened father took him to a brothel. There, Renato imagined the prostitute in front of him as Marlena who thought about it day and night.
When World War II ended, local women humiliated and beat Marlena in public. Marlena left the town for Messina. A few days later, Marlena's husband returned to the town to look for Marlena. He saw his house occupied by displaced refugees. Renato wrote to tell Marlena's husband the truth: Marlena had always loved him, and the rumors were false. So Marlena's husband went to Messina to look for Marlena. A year later, they suddenly returned to town. The inhabitants of the town, especially the women, were amazed at their bravery. The devil sent God, and everyone lived in peace as if nothing had happened.
In the final scene of the film, by the beach, Renato helps Marlena pick up the oranges that have fallen from the bag. Then he said to Marlena, "Good luck, madame. Then he got on his bike and took one last look at Marlena. This is Renato's first and only conversation with Marlena in the film. As the screen faded out, a mature Renato voice sounded: "Over the years, there have been many girls who have said to me, 'Don't forget me,' but I have forgotten them. To this day, it's just her, which I'll never forget. ”
