The overall appearance of the Beijing Winter Olympic Torch is extremely dynamic and dynamic, with a forward momentum and endless inner strength, which is the display of today's Chinese cultural spirit and national charm, and also pins people's beautiful expectations for the future.
Traditional Chinese philosophical wisdom emphasizes that "what is profitable and what is not useful" is emphasized. "Flying" is a torch with an open form and an inclusive posture, breaking through the closed shape of the traditional torch. Inspired by the Chinese cultural idea of "Taoist Nature, Unity of Heaven and Man", the "Flying" torch draws inspiration from nature, presents an extremely natural and oriental aesthetic, and conveys the value proposition of a community with a shared future for mankind.
The silver and red of the main body symbolize the meeting of ice and fire, illuminating the ice and snow and warming the whole world. The bottom-up inner and outer double-layered structure dances like a ribbon and finally merges with the flying flame. The red lines run up and down around the torch, symbolizing the passion of the ice and snow track, expressing the endless human life, the desire for peace, the pursuit of excellence and the power of the Olympic Movement.
The appearance of the torch echoes the form of the main torch tower of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, and the auspicious cloud pattern on the main body of the torch is cleverly gradated to a paper-cut style snowflake pattern, reflecting the unique charm of Beijing as the world's first double Olympic city.
The tops of the two torches can be closely interlocked, like a handshake, and this design ingenuity symbolizes the exchange and mutual learning of different civilizations, embodying the vision of the Beijing Winter Olympics that makes the world more aware and integrated, and the Olympic Games more united.
We also draw inspiration from the wealth of China's intangible cultural heritage, such as the cloud pattern of YunJinxiang and the snowflake pattern of Chinese paper-cut style, and the sacred flame composed of 24 flames to symbolize the 24 solar terms.
The torch is made of carbon fiber three-dimensional woven material, which reduces the weight of the torch, and uses environmentally friendly hydrogen fuel to achieve zero emissions from the combustion of the torch, reflecting the "green" Olympic concept and the achievements of the Winter Olympics in science and technology.
As a designer, I am very much looking forward to the moment at the opening ceremony when the athletes light the main torch tower with a "flying" torch. Come on Beijing Winter Olympics! Let's move into the future together!
