Xinhua News Agency

The Red Army is not afraid of expeditions and difficulties, and thousands of rivers and mountains are just waiting for idleness. More than 80 years have passed since that great expedition, which not only wrote a brilliant page in the historical process of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, but also left a priceless spiritual legacy for the people of Chinese and even the people of the world.

Today, following in the footsteps of the Red Army, we relive the spirit of the Long March and feel the sincere heart of our ancestors who loved the party and the people. From the Red Army Cave to the Red Army Road, from the Red Rock Village to the current development, the Long March is always on the road, and the spirit of the Long March never stops.

In the midst of hardships and hardships, we have forged the road to victory

In Shi trench town, Qijiang District, Chongqing, there is still a section of "original ecology" of the Red Army Road. It was a steep dirt-and-stone mountain road, next to a valley shaded by dense woods. This mountain road is still very narrow in many places, and every time you land, every turn, you may step on the rocks and fall.

The road sign at the end of the Red Army Road is described as follows: In January 1935, after the Zunyi Conference, in accordance with the strategic deployment of the Central Military Commission, more than 8,000 people of the Red First Army set out from Songkan, Guizhou, and arrived at the Chongqing Stone Trench through the arrow pass, where after being stationed, the troops were pulled out on January 22 and went to Guizhou to begin a crossing of Chishui.

Yuan Qinhua, secretary of the Chongqing Qijiang District CPC Committee, said that the local government has preserved the original appearance of this road as much as possible so that people today can more truly appreciate the hardships of the Red Army's Long March.

And the hardships overcome by the Red Army's Long March went far beyond the difficulty of the road. They wore straw shoes or barefoot, carried equipment and luggage, led horses, and carried the wounded in various forms such as stretchers and supports, and many times there were enemy planes bombing in the sky and enemy pursuit behind them.

The famous American journalist Edgar Snow wrote in the book "Red Star Shines on China" that along the road, on average, there was a small battle almost every day, and an average of seventy-one miles per day. "It's an amazing walk for such an army to walk through many of the world's most dangerous areas at an average speed." Snow sighed.

In the long journey, the red army officers and men fought more than 600 battles with the enemy, crossed nearly a hundred rivers, climbed more than 40 high mountains and dangerous peaks, of which more than 20 snow mountains above 4,000 meters above sea level, crossed the vast grassland known as "death traps", and conquered the limits of human survival with tenacious will.

The length of the Long March, the scale of the Long March, the distance of the journey, the treachery of the environment, and the fierceness of the battles are unimaginable to us today. "The wind and rain soak the bones harder, the wild vegetables are filled with hunger and the determination is stronger; the officers and men are unanimous in their happiness and bitterness, and the revolutionary ideal is higher than the sky." It is precisely with lofty ideals and firm convictions that the Party and the Red Army have forged the road of victory step by step in the midst of hardships and hardships.

The military and the people rely on each other to sow the seeds of revolution

In Shi trench town in Chongqing Qijiang District, Yajiang Town in Xiushan County and other places, there are still "Red Army Caves" of different sizes and shapes, which have become an important carrier for local people to remember the Red Army and inherit red memories.

Li Zhiwen, a villager in Jiangxi Village, Yajiang Town, pointed to a stone cave at the foot of the mountain that was more than half a person high and more than ten meters deep, and told reporters that his father, Li Mufu, had rescued a wounded Red Army here. In order not to be discovered by the enemy, Li Mufu hid him in a cave behind his home, laid thick grass for him to rest, and gave him medicine, food, and tea to wash his wounds.

Li Zhiwen recalled that his father once said that the Red Army did not take a needle and a thread from the masses in those years, and often solved problems for the people, leaving a good impression on everyone. After the Red Army left, his father kept thinking of him, hoping that he would return to the team safely. This Red Army was the future founding general Duan Suquan, who traveled thousands of miles back to Xiushan 49 years later in search of a savior. This story was thus recorded in the local party history.

The Long March is a manifesto, the Long March is a propaganda team, and the Long March is a seeding machine. During the Long March, the Red Army worked hard to win the trust of the people and sowed the seeds of revolution everywhere it went. Those red memories, those deep feelings of military and civilian dependence, are engraved in the rings of history and passed down from generation to generation.

For the story of the Red Army to the stone trenches, 57-year-old Chen Wenquan is like a family treasure. Both his father and grandfather had seen the Red Army and told him the story of the Red Army when he was young. From the age of 17, Chen Wenquan volunteered to maintain the local Red Army Bridge. In the 1990s, he paid for more than 3,000 bricks and tiles and worked with villagers to renovate the Red Army Bridge. "My fathers said that they had feelings for the Red Army Bridge, and since they lived here, they should love it and care about it." Chen Wenquan said.

The town of Nanwaijie in Youyang County, Chongqing is the only place in Chongqing where provincial Soviet power was established. Walking in today's southern waist boundary, the "Red Army" is undoubtedly the most distinctive element. The roads here are called "Red Army Middle Street" and "Red Army New Street", the hospital here is called "Red Army Hospital", and the walls of the small colleges here are engraved with five-pointed stars. Many people here remember the stories of the Red Army told by their elders.

Uniting with the masses and relying on the masses, the Party and the Red Army won the sincere support of the masses of the people and realized the great victory of the Long March. The masses of the people are the source of strength for the victory of the Long March.

The spirit of the Long March never stops

The green mountains are verdant, and the Hongyan Village in Chongqing in the middle of summer is hidden in it, and the flow of people is weaving. Tourists from all over the country gather here to feel the spirit of Hongyan and receive education in the revolutionary tradition.

Hongyan Village was once the command center of the Chinese Communist Party in the Kuomintang district. After the outbreak of the All-out War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Zhou Enlai, Dong Biwu, Ye Jianying, Deng Yingchao, and other proletarian revolutionaries and veteran soldiers of the Red Army who had participated in the 25,000-mile Long March came here to carry out united front work and also spread the spirit of the Long March and the revolutionary truth in the hearts of the people of Shancheng.

"We must draw the strength of faith from the stormy years of struggle and understand the party's original intention and mission." A tourist who was visiting Hongyan Village wrote down this sentiment in a guestbook.

Starting from the end of the Long March, from one victory to another, the Party leads the people to move forward, and the spirit of the Long March is also constantly expanding and extending its connotation in the new era.

An era has an era theme, and a generation has a generation mission. On the road of the new Long March, every Chinese is a protagonist and has a responsibility. In the future, there are still many "snowy mountains" and "meadows" that need to be crossed, and there are still many "Loushan Pass" and "Lazikou" that need to be conquered.

The Long March is always on the way. No matter what step our career development is, no matter how much we have achieved, we must vigorously carry forward the spirit of the Great Long March and continue to forge ahead courageously on the new Long March road.
