He sought the brocade of heaven
Aedh Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven
Author:Yeats [Ireland]
Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
If I had the splendid silk of heaven,
It is woven with golden and silver light,
Night, day, dawn and evening
Blue, gray and pitch-black brocade,
I will spread the brocade under your feet;
But I, destitute, have only dreams;
I have laid my dreams under your feet;
Tap because you're stepping on my dreams.
