Thirty years ago, when Ukraine decided to separate from Russia, it inherited a large amount of Soviet military power. Watching the military parade in Ukraine in the early years was not much different from Russia, but now Ukraine's weapons have become more and more Westernized.
What really separated Russia and Ukraine, and eventually parted ways, was nothing more than a decision by Yanukovych in 2014 to freeze partnership negotiations between Ukraine and the European Union.
Everyone knows what will happen after that. Crimea returned to Russia, Donetsk and Luhansk became Udon regions, and eastern and southern Ukraine, such as Kharkiv and Odessa, tended to separate.
The Minsk agreement is aimed at stabilizing the situation in Eastern Ukraine, but objectively speaking, it also makes the status quo in this region fixed and long-term. Who gained the most in the negotiations, everyone can see it.
