In the sixth year of Yongzheng, Zeng Jing and Zhang Xi of Hunan instigated Yue Zhongqi to plot a rebellion, which led to the Lü Liuliang case.

Yongzheng believes that the Zeng and Lü cases are not just an accidental incident in which a Hunan person was influenced by Lü's thought to instigate a rebellion by others.

It is a fundamental question of whether the Qing Dynasty, with Yidi as emperor, has a theoretical basis for its rule over China.

Even more serious for the Yongzheng Emperor himself was the sharp challenge of his qualifications as a monarch.

Whether it was out of "public indignation" to defend the legitimacy of the Qing Dynasty's rule, or to wash away the dirty water that others had spilled on him and maintain the innocence of his personal morality, the Yongzheng Emperor could not bear it and could not retreat.

After thorough planning and careful preparations, he finally personally launched this concentrated attack on Lü Liuliang's literary prison in May of the seventh year of Yongzheng.

It was not until December of the 10th year of Yongzheng that this literal prison, which was comparable to the Zhuang shi case, was ended.

Lü Liuliang filed a corpse, the eldest son Lü Baozhong and his student Yan Hongkui were killed, another son Lü Yizhong and his student Shen Zaikuan were beheaded, and other people who were linked were also severely punished.

The reason why the case dragged on for so long was because the Yongzheng Emperor did not let the readers of the whole country publicly express their attitude toward the verdict of Lü Liuliang and others.

Layer by layer downward arrangement, layer by layer statement, layer by layer upward feedback.

The results were so good that the governors of the provinces reported to them:

"The students and supervisors to which they belong, each with a knot, is the sin of Lü Liuliang's father and son, and it is difficult to read, and the law is greatly rebellious, but it is really deserved, and no one has a different word."

The Yongzheng Emperor was finally at ease.
