Late one night in 1960, in the Second Steelmaking Plant of Angang Steel, Yuan Mingxiu, then the party secretary, walked from the flaming open stove into the dim production dispatch room, took off his steaming overalls, picked up the kettle and poured it twice, wiped the sweat from his face, and took a long time to catch his breath. He sat down close by and looked at the phone on the table and asked if the dispatcher had called from someone from home. The dispatcher knew what the secretary meant by "home," but he just shook his head helplessly. Not long ago, Yuan Mingxiu's wife was diagnosed with a brain tumor and had to go to Beijing for surgery. However, Yuan Mingxiu really couldn't let go of the work at hand, and decided to stick to his post with a fierce heart. When the organization learned of his family's difficulties, it immediately sent a paramedic to accompany him. And today is the day of the wife's surgery, whether the situation is good or bad is unknown, Yuan Mingxiu is worried and uneasy in his heart.

Yuan Mingxiu slowly wiped the sweat from his neck with a towel, thoughtfully. He picked up the phone, hesitated for a moment, then put it down again, "alas" and turned away.

The huge crane in the workshop rumbled, and Yuan Mingxiu, next to the scorching open stove, loudly communicated with several workers and masters while comparing. At this moment, his heart was jumping and churning fiercely like the orange-red molten steel.

In 1939, Yuan Mingxiu took a group photo with his comrades-in-arms during the four detachments of the Shandong Column. Yuan Mingxiu, second from the right in the back row.

"Secretary Yuan, Secretary Yuan!" Suddenly, the comrades in the dispatch room quickly ran to shout: "There is a call from Beijing, the operation is very successful!" ”

Hearing this, the crowd was excited and congratulated. A stone that Yuan Mingxiu pressed on his heart finally fell to the ground, and he couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.

At this moment, the huge open hearth steel came out, the hot molten steel poured down with the splashing sparks, and the dazzling light illuminated the workshop, illuminated the steelmaking workers, and illuminated Yuan Mingxiu's sweaty cheeks with a smile.

Yuan Mingxiu was born in 1923 in Laiwu County, Shandong Province, and his family has been farmers for generations. In times of chaos, parents only rely on a few acres of thin fields to pull a few children to survive. Yuan Mingxiu has read books for several years, although it is intermittent, but he also has some cultural knowledge.

The story of Angang 'Five Hundred Arhats' | Yuan Mingxiu: The silent battlefield has also made meritorious achievements

In 1952, Yuan Mingxiu took a photo while serving as vice mayor of Wenzhou.

In 1937, after the outbreak of the "Lugou Bridge Incident", the Japanese army quickly invaded the south and immediately occupied all of Shandong. During this period, under the guidance of progressives, the young Yuan Mingxiu resolutely joined the local Anti-Japanese Salvation Congress and embarked on the revolutionary road.

One day in the early spring of 1938, Yuan Mingxiu and several partners went up the mountain to cut firewood, and when they left for home near the evening, they suddenly found that the direction of the village was burning brightly. Several people ran to the middle of the mountain to hide behind a boulder, and in the distance they saw a large group of Japanese troops holding the entrance of the village, setting fire to the entire village, and the men, women and children ran away in all directions. Several teenagers saw that they wanted to go back to the village to save their father's mother, but they were stopped by Yuan Mingxiu, who shouted: "You don't want to die, even if you go back, you can beat the little devil?" ”

Several of his companions were at a loss for words, and they sat on the ground and cried. At this time, Yuan Mingxiu did not know whether his parents were alive or dead, and tears swirled in his eyes. He clenched his steel teeth and "clattered", then slapped the stone and said, "Go, let's join the Eighth Route Army!" ”

In 1954, Yuan Mingxiu, then vice mayor of Wenzhou, took a group photo with comrades in Wenzhou before leaving for Anshan. The fifth from the left in the second row is Yuan Mingxiu.

Yuan Mingxiu said and turned around and took a few of his partners to leave without turning back. As everyone knows, his turn is decades, during which he learned that his family is safe and sound, but due to work reasons, it is nearly 50 years after he returned to the village, and his parents have long been gone.

After leaving the village, Yuan Mingxiu found the fourth detachment of the Shandong Column of the Eighth Route Army, became a soldier of the Eighth Route Army, and immediately participated in the War of Resistance Against Japan.

In one battle, Yuan Mingxiu's unit was surrounded by ghosts, and our side concentrated its firepower to attack a little, trying to tear a crack in the enemy's encirclement. Just as the troops were about to break through, a shell roared in and went straight to the machine gunner. Instantly before the shell landed, Yuan Mingxiu pounced violently and pushed the machine gunner away.

With a loud bang, Yuan Mingxiu lost consciousness.

When Yuan Mingxiu woke up, the troops had successfully broken through, the machine gunner was safe and sound, but he himself was seriously injured in the leg, but fortunately the doctor rescued the crisis. In this battle, Yuan Mingxiu was awarded the second class merit for his heroic performance. In the future battles, such thrilling scenes, Yuan Mingxiu experienced many times, and repeatedly made battle achievements.

The story of Angang 'Five Hundred Arhats' | Yuan Mingxiu: The silent battlefield has also made meritorious achievements

In 1965, Yuan Mingxiu and Gao Fengshu were with their children in Qianshan, Anshan.

After the outbreak of the Pacific War, Japan confiscated British and American financial institutions in China and transported billions of French tenders from the Japanese-puppet control areas to the rear of the Kuomintang and the anti-Japanese base areas in exchange for materials, resulting in soaring prices and a sharp decline in the purchasing power of legal tender. Coupled with the economic blockade imposed by the Kuomintang authorities, there was a serious shortage of grain and money in all the anti-Japanese base areas of the CPC. The same is true in Shandong, where the "Beihai Coin", which was originally issued by the Shandong Anti-Japanese Base Area, depreciated rapidly, and grain prices rose 25 times in two years. Subsequently, Zhu Rui, chairman of the Shandong Provincial CPC Committee, "detained" Xue Huiqiao, a Communist Party member who was passing through Shandong to Yan'an, who immediately carried out drastic reforms, expelled legal tender, established an independent currency market, and gradually stabilized prices. At the same time, in order to fight this economic battle, Xue Huiqiao deliberately cultivated a group of young people in the party, aiming to establish a complete economic system, including the young Yuan Mingxiu. In 1941, Yuan Mingxiu was organized to study at the Shandong School of Finance and Economics, and after graduation, he successively went to work in the head office, branch, central office and other units of the Shandong Beihai Bank, and he began a more fierce struggle on this silent battlefield.

After the prices in the base area stabilized, Xue Huiqiao made another good move. At that time, one of the most important products in the Shandong base area was sea salt, which was an indispensable and extremely scarce material for the neighboring enemy-occupied areas and the national unification area. As a result, the government of the base area monopolized the sale of sea salt, lowered the salt tax, increased production, and greatly increased the price of salt sold outside the base area. This move led to the enemy blockade being broken to a certain extent in the base areas, and funds began to pour in.

Although Yuan Mingxiu worked in a bank, the conditions were very difficult, and the head office of the Beihai Bank at that time was just a few dark and simple houses. All the capital flows in the base area were calculated by Yuan Mingxiu and these young people under the oil lamp through an abacus. If they encounter a marching battle, they put away their ledgers, carry their money bags and set off. In particular, during the Japanese-Kou sweep, Yuan Mingxiu and his comrades-in-arms broke through and transferred many times, and paid a blood price to ensure the funds and accounts they managed, and Yuan Mingxiu often said that his life was "worth money". After the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Yuan Mingxiu was awarded the first class merit and won a medal of "People's Meritorious Service". Years later, he mentioned this story to the children, and the children said mischievously: "At that time, you were carrying so much money, why don't you keep a little, even if it is a souvenir!" Hearing this, Yuan Mingxiu, who has always been kind, solemnly told the children that they used their lives to protect every penny, that is the root of the army, and it is a sacred mission!

The story of Angang 'Five Hundred Arhats' | Yuan Mingxiu: The silent battlefield has also made meritorious achievements

In 1969, Yuan Mingxiu took a family photo while working in Jiugang.

In 1948, Yuan Mingxiu went south with his army to take over Lianyungang, and then went south to Zhejiang. After arriving, under the arrangement of the organization, he successively served as the president of the taizhou and Wenzhou special district central branches of the People's Bank of China and a member of the financial committee of the special district. Since 1952, he has successively served as vice mayor of Wenzhou, member of the Standing Committee of the Wenzhou Municipal Party Committee of the Communist Party of China, deputy secretary of the party group of the municipal government, secretary of the party committee of the organ, and director of the Planning Commission. In a few years, Yuan Mingxiu was successively in charge of industry, planning, finance, commerce and trade, urban construction and war preparedness, etc., and worked hard to lay a solid foundation for Wenzhou to establish political power, restore and develop the economy, and at the same time accumulated a lot of valuable experience for future work on the industrial front, when he was not yet 30 years old.

In 1954, Yuan Mingxiu responded to the call of the state and went to Angang Steel to support the construction, and successively served as the director of the financial accounting department of Angang Steel, the director of the production department, and the secretary of the party committee of the second steelmaking plant. In the meantime, he responded to the call of the company's cadres at the grassroots level and took the lead in moving his family from Taicho to the staff dormitory next to Shengli Road. As the main leader of the factory, the place where he rested in the unit was the temporary rest room of the workers and masters. Late one night, there was an accident in the factory, and the children in the family were not taken care of, so Yuan Mingxiu took his young daughter to the factory. The cold wind is cold, it is pitch black, the little daughter is a little timid, seeing the brightly lit Angang in front of her, Yuan Mingxiu can't help but be full of excitement, encourage the little daughter, and teach him to sing a song: "Since I was a child, I was used to seeing the smoke clouds in the sky, I was used to the roar of the machine, I am an Anshan person, Anshan was born to an anshan chief..."

The loud singing of father and daughter sang the silent night. In that fiery era, Yuan Mingxiu burned his youth and guided the way forward for the next generation like a beacon.

In 1964, Yuan Mingxiu was selected by the Angang Party Committee and the Anshan Municipal Party Committee to study at the Central High Party School, and after graduation, he was just in time for the second time that Jiugang was launched, and for a time this steel mill built on the Gobi desert once again touched the hearts of countless people. Then, countless builders from all over the country rushed to Jiugang again. At that time, there were two options in front of Yuan Mingxiu, one was to go to the Ministry of Metallurgy, and the other was to go to Jiugang to support construction. The answer seemed obvious to him.

The children happily asked him how the wine steel was, and he described it in a colorful way: "Of course, the wine steel is good, there are blue skies, white clouds, mountains, rivers, and endless colorful pebbles along the river!" The children were excited and hopeful when they heard it. However, after arriving at Jiayuguan, he found that there was only yellow sand and barren Gobi. The children were angry and wanted to ask the truth, but found that their father came out early and returned late every day, so busy that he did not even have the opportunity to find his theory. Years later, whenever this matter is mentioned, the children complain that they have been "deceived", but they also know in their hearts that suffering is ahead, regardless of gains and losses, which is the style of the tall and mighty father in their minds.

In 1970, after the "General War", the Jiugang No. 1 blast furnace finally achieved simple iron production. At that moment, Yuan Mingxiu was deeply relieved.

After the end of the "Cultural Revolution" in 1976, Yuan Mingxiu was transferred to the Department of Metallurgical Industry of Gansu Province, where he successively served as director of the department and secretary of the party leading group. In 1984, he was appointed as an adviser to the Gansu Provincial Economic and Trade Commission and the Planning Commission, and was subsequently elected as a director of the Longhailan New Economic Promotion Association.
