In the process of love and communication, the two gradually developed contradictions, and Hong mou had the idea of killing Yue Yue, and found his friends Zhang Mouguang and Cao Mouqing to cooperate in killing Yue Yue. The three planned in advance and prepared tools such as cameras, helmets, camouflage training uniforms, backpacks, handbags, headlamps, camouflage nets and monocular night vision goggles, and repeatedly practiced the crime method.
On July 9, 2020, Hong lured Yue Yue into going to Menghai County, Xishuangbanna Prefecture, and provided funds to Zhang Mouguang and Cao Mouqing, allowing Zhang and Cao to book tickets in advance to go to Menghai County. After arriving on July 9, 2020, Zhang and Cao bought two shovels in Menghai County and walked to a park in Menghai County to dig a pit in the woods to prepare for the killing of Yue Yue. After Yue Yue arrived, the two used the voice function of a game to guide the victim to a small area in Menghai County, and Zhang Mouguang used a flashlight to lead the victim to the digging point, killing Yue Yue and burying the body.
Two days after the incident, Zhang and Cao flew back to Nanjing and handed over relevant documents, jewelry and other items and some crime tools to Hong. On August 3 of that year, the local police found the body of the victim Yue Yue in a park wood, and on the same day, the police arrested Hong Mou and three other criminal suspects in Nanjing.

According to Yue Yue's father, Li Sheng, in the Dragon Boat Festival in 2020, Yue Yue took Hong back to his hometown in Yangzhou, which was the first time he saw Hong. According to Li Sheng's recollection, Hong did not leave too deep an impression on him at that time, only remembering that Hong wore a pair of boots at that time and his body was relatively strong.

Hong first took the couple to the mobile phone shop to see if he could locate Yue Yue's mobile phone, and then accompanied them to the police station to report the case in the afternoon, and claimed that Yue Yue had a quarrel with himself before she disappeared, and then packed up her things and left, and also took 50,000 yuan.

Li Sheng said that after he traveled to Menghai County in Yunnan Province to look for his daughter, Hong also told him on the phone that Yue Yue may have smuggled to Myanmar and suspected that she was in contact with drug dealers and others.
Later, Li Sheng informed the local police of the content of this conversation, and the experienced criminal investigation police immediately said that Hong had a very serious suspicion of committing a crime, and suggested that Li Sheng reflect the situation to the public security department to investigate whether Hong had been to Yunnan before and after his daughter's disappearance. On January 24, 2021, Li Sheng waited for a written summons issued by the Xishuangbanna Intermediate People's Court, and the court informed that the trial would be held in the first court of the Xishuangbanna Intermediate People's Court on the morning of January 28. According to Li Sheng, the body of his daughter Yue yue has been parked in a hospital in Menghai County, Yunnan Province, and they can't bear to let their daughter lie alone in the cold morgue, and for more than a year, he and his family have traveled back and forth between Nanjing and Menghai many times.
In order to enter the trial scene, Li Sheng proposed criminal incidental civil compensation at the suggestion of his lawyer, but he said that he would not ask for the money, "This money is actually not enough for the travel expenses." Li Sheng revealed that he and his family have spent more than 200,000 yuan on the road to and from Yunnan several times, and he only wants to see the person who hurt his daughter punished, and he can also safely bring her body back to his hometown in Yangzhou.
At 3 p.m. on January 27, the pretrial conference was held. Li Sheng told Jimu News that he proposed to the court that the civil compensation proposed be reduced from 150,000 yuan to 100,000 yuan.
"The reason why we lowered the compensation from 150,000 yuan to 100,000 yuan is to show an attitude, we are not for money, we are asking the court to sentence Hong to death."
