USA Today reporter Sam Amick then confirmed the news, according to Amick, the Lakers have the team option for Scott in the 2016-17 season, and the Lakers decided not to implement it.
According to Ramona Shelburne, the Lakers' contract with Scott contains rewards tied to the team's performance, while Scott's team record in the past two seasons has not met the requirements.
Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchek said he and Lakers partners and executive vice president Jimmy Bass plan to have an informal lunch with Scott.
Scott served as lakers coach in the 2014-15 season, and according to previous reports, the Lakers signed Scott to a 4-year, 17 million contract.
In the two seasons of the Lakers' coaching, the record is 38 wins and 126 losses (21 wins and 61 losses in the 2014-15 season, 17 wins and 65 losses in the 2015-16 season), and the Lakers have set the worst record in team history for two consecutive years.
Scott began his role as team coach in the 2000–01 season, serving as manager for the Nets, Hornets, Cavaliers, and Lakers, with a coaching record of 454 wins and 647 losses, a winning percentage of 42.1%.
In the 2007–08 season, Scott led the team to 56 wins and 26 losses as the Hornets coach, ranking second in the West and winning the best manager.
