Iris on French History 25, Joan of Arc Turning the Tide (3)

On 23 May 1430, Joan of Arc was captured by the Duchy of Burgundy, an ally of England.

Why was joan of Arc also captured?

Don't be afraid of opponents like dragons, just fear teammates like pigs.

On this day, when Joan of Arc led a force to try to attack a Burgundian camp north of compiègne, the other side suddenly added 6,000 fresh troops, Joan of Arc saw that the enemy was outnumbered and led the team to retreat back to the chaff border city, but the defenders of the chaff border city were too nervous, and closed the city gate before they could finish their own retreat, so that Joan of Arc and a small number of palace troops were surrounded and captured by the superior army of Burgundy.

A few months later, Philip, Duke of Burgundy, sold Joan of Arc to the English for 10,000 livres tournois.

How much the French loved Joan of Arc, how much the British hated Joan of Arc, because it was Joan of Arc who let the cooked Duck of England and France fly away.

So on January 9, 1431, in Rouen (the capital of present-day Normandy, France), the English launched the trial of Joan of Arc, who were trying to "prove" that the miraculous peasant girl was a witch.

They "proved it" and sentenced her to be burned at the stake.

On May 30, in Rouen's Old Market Square, Joan of Arc was tied to a stake and burned alive at the age of 19.

In this way, the balance of victory and defeat in the Hundred Years' War once again tilted to the French side, and it was up to Joan of Arc to see if Charles VII, who was supported by Joan of Arc, could seize this opportunity.
