Davis Bertans isn't worth much in the trading market, so it's not so easy for the Wizards to find a willingness to absorb his 4-year contract.
In the deal, the Thunder took over Bertans' remaining $65 million contract with a return on future draft picks. For the Wizards, one prerequisite for them to push for a heavier move in the trading market is to get rid of the contract.
While the Wizards will need to sacrifice an unprotected future first-round pick and second-round pick, they can also get back the team's protected first-round pick in 2023 in addition to getting rid of Bertans' contract.
