ESPN: City are close to signing River Plate striker Alvarez

According to ESPN, Manchester City are close to signing River Plate striker Alvarez.

City faced competition from AC Milan before they and the 21-year-old Argentine striker agreed on the details. Sources reveal that the transfer fee will not exceed £20 million. Alvarez, who has already made five appearances for the Argentine national team, is expected to land at the Etihad Stadium in the summer window, where he will be part of City's first team. Before landing in the Premier League, City will consider going back to River Plate or elsewhere.

Asked about Alvarez after the 1-1 draw with Southampton, Guardiola said: "The club didn't give me any information, nothing at all. I didn't know anything, the club didn't notify me of anything. "Alvarez is considered one of the finest young players in South America and apart from Manchester City, AC Milan, Barca and Real Madrid have all expressed interest in him. City are open to the idea of making him part of Pep Guardiola's squad next season, but sources reveal his arrival will not affect City's idea of signing a mature striker in the summer window, with Both Haaland and Kane on their roster.
