The wardrobe of the Six Dynasties | The clogs are eternal, and a pair of them will last forever

In the rainy season, there is enough rain and many puddles. Jiangnan people wear clogs, tap and kick, and the voice is dull. If it is sunny, the clogs are thrown on the cement floor, and the sound becomes clear. Clogs are not only worn by people now, but also by people of the Six Dynasties.

There is a story in the "New Language of the World": The Marquis of Lantian was anxious, nagged the egg to eat, nagged several times but could not nag, was angry, threw the egg to the ground, and trampled it with a wooden clog, but still did not stumble. Even more angry, he picked up the egg, put it in his mouth and chewed it and spit it out, before he could relieve his hatred.

This is a scene of daily life of the People of the Six Dynasties. It can be seen that clogs are indeed worn daily by the people of the Six Dynasties.

There are clogs worn, naturally there are clogs, and there are clogs sold, Ruan Yaoji is the son of Ruan Xian, the son of ruan xian, the nephew of Nguyen. He not only likes clogs, but also deals in clogs. Someone went to see him, when Ruan Yaoji was waxing the clogs, he saw people, sighed and said: I don't know how many pairs of clogs people can wear in this life? Look idle.

How many pairs of clogs can a person wear in this life? Ruan Yaoji's sigh about life seems to be saying that life is short. But in the case of clogs, the shoes are also really durable. Yu Playzhi, who served as Wucheng Ling (present-day Huzhou, Zhejiang), wore a pair of clogs for twenty years. Emperor Xiao Daocheng of Qigao couldn't see it and wanted to give him a pair, but he was refused. Yu Playzhi said, "The evil seat of the yarrow cannot be left behind", which translates to: no matter how simple and dilapidated, it is also a beloved old thing that accompanies you through the long road of life, and you cannot bear to abandon it.

Huang Qiang, an expert in the history of Nanjing costumes and the author of "The Wardrobe of the Six Dynasties", told reporters that clogs have a long history, and it exists in the Liangzhu cultural period of four or five thousand years ago. The earliest pair of domestic clogs excavated from the Cihu Lake site in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, has been excavated. Its shape is different from that of today's clogs, with wide forefoots, narrow heels, five holes, and a tether that can be inserted into the grooves at the bottom of the clogs.

Clogs from the Liangzhu culture period

From Liangzhu to the Six Dynasties, we do not know the process of its morphological change because there are no more archaeological discoveries, but through archaeological discoveries, we know what the clogs of the Cao Wei period looked like. In 1987, archaeologists found a pair of lacquered clogs in the tomb of Zhu Ran, who had repelled tens of thousands of Cao Wei troops and was "famous for the enemy country". This pair of lacquered clogs, the front and back of the board round head, the bottom has two teeth, the tether hole has three, the front end one, the rear end two.

The Jiangnan people in the water town wore clogs from Liangzhu to the Six Dynasties, walking for two or three thousand years.

In "The World Speaks a New Language", clogs are not uncommon. Huang Qiang told reporters that the shoes of the Six Dynasties are numerous, with shoes, shoes and boots. Shoes are worn on normal occasions. Ass is worn daily. There is a difference between the two.

There happens to be a story in the "New Language of the World" that illustrates this problem: when Wang Xianzhi's brothers met with their uncle Xi Xian, they were all "creeping and interrogating", when Xi Xian's son Xi Huan was super powerful and high-ranking; but after Xi Chao's death, Wang Xianzhi went to his uncle's house, and he "wore a high rank and looked contemptuous". Xi Huan asked them to sit, and they said, "If you have something to do, don't sit down." "Both go. Xi Huan sighed, "If Xi Chao doesn't die, the rats dare to!" (This story is also included in the Book of Jin.)

Tall sandals, that is, high-toothed clogs, are suitable for going out in the rain, will not wet socks, and also have an impact on the flower pot bottom shoes of the Qing people. The story of "The New Language of the World" uses Gao To say that Wang Xianzhi has a problem with his character.

Wang Xianzhi's character is probably the most discussed is to divorce his wife and remarry. Wang Xianzhi was originally the niece of Xi Huan. Some people believe that Wang Xianzhi divorced his wife and remarried for the sake of the portal because of the decline of the Xi family; others believe that Wang Xianzhi was forced to do so helplessly, and even did not hesitate to harm himself in order to resist the edict. Judging from the fact that Wang Xianzhi met his uncle with Gao Yu, it seems that the former is more reliable.

Character aside, the five children of Wang Xi's family are probably the most outstanding. Wang Xianzhi once went to see Xie An with his brothers Hui zhi and Cao Yi, "The second brother talks a lot of mundane things, and the offering is only cold and warm." After they left, someone asked Xie An about the wang brothers' merits, and Xie An said, "The little one is better." "Best of all.

Speaking of Xie An, he also has a clogs story. In "The New Language of the World", it is said: Xie An played chess with people, and suddenly someone sent Xie Xuan's letter, and after Xie An read it, he was silent, and the chess game was still the same. The guest asked what was wrong, and Xie An said, "Little children are big thieves." "The way you behave is not unusual.

"Little children and big thieves" refers to the Battle of Shuishui. Xie Xuan and others led their troops to defeat the Former Qin army of more than 200,000 with an army strength of 80,000. It is a classic battle that has left its name in history.

In "The New Language of the World", Xie An was beyond ordinary people's clouds and light wind, quite like what we now call Wei Jin demeanor. But in the "Book of Jin", we see the follow-up story: "Inside, the transfer limit, the heart is very happy, and I don't feel the fold of my teeth." After playing chess, he entered the inner courtyard and was rejoicing in the victory of the Battle of Shuishui, but as a result, the teeth under the clogs were broken by the threshold or steps. When Fang Xuanling and others compiled the Book of Jin, they couldn't help but comment: Its sentimentality is like this. It is such a restrained emotion, pretending to be calm, making it impossible to guess.

Should we refrain from such a happy thing and pretend to be deep? The attitude of the Song dynasty scholar Shao Yong was different from that of Xie An. Shao Yong wrote in the poem "Yi Quan Yin":

Intention is in things, words are sincere.

It's not what I can do.

The heart is happy, the real celebrity is the real celebrity, what behavior is as usual, the cloud is light and the wind is light, the temperament is calm, in Shao Yong's view, it is inevitable that it is too tired.
