Recently, the owner of a Spanish vineyard released a photo with former Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales, triggering a discussion among netizens about the former president's "resume".

Guatemala Lahora News Network reported on January 19 that recently, the owner of a vineyard in Granada, Spain, and Jimmy Morales have attracted attention. The caption of the photo says "former Guatemalan President Jimi Morales tasted delicious wines with us" and reveals the identity of Morales' sommelier.

The photo garnered a great deal of commentary, most of it a criticism of the former president, while others reviewed and lamented Morales' vast career span.

It is recalled that before becoming a politician, Morales was a comedian who starred for many years in the comedy show "Moralejas", which is still broadcast on Guatemalan channel SEVEN. Before becoming president, he ran for mayor of Mixco, but ultimately lost.

In 2015, Morales, a politician, garnered extremely high support during mass marches with the slogan "Neither corrupt nor steal." In 2016, Guatemala's then-president, Otto Pérez Molina, was arrested and a large number of official corruption cases were uncovered. In this social context, Morales ascended to the presidency.

During his administration, Morales sacked Iván Velásquez, head of the International Commission to Combat Impunity (CICIG), a joint venture between the United Nations and the Guatemalan government, and appointed Consuelo Porras, now-disputed attorney general. Accused of rigging the election, he was asked to step down by multiple parties and frequent demonstrations against him were carried out.

In 2020, Morales left the presidency and was subsequently sworn in as a member of parliament and sought immunity from the Central American Parliament. Today, Morales, who has left politics, is a European sommelier.
