Fu Cunxun then stopped Li Cunxun and advised, "The Great King is bent on restoring the Tang Dynasty and should take care of his body. The capture of the flag would not be of any benefit to the saints, and the king would just leave it to his subordinates. Li Cunxun then returned to the camp and no longer personally fought. Later, Zhou Dewei was killed in battle, and Fu Cunzhen fought desperately, which was the defeat of liang jun at Huliu and won this victory.

Soon liang jun took advantage of the fog to attack, and the people who watched the gas said that the fog was a harbinger of the battle front, and Fu Cunzhen said that it was an auspicious omen and persuaded Li Sizhao to go to war. Then the Jin army went to war and defeated the Liang army, scaring Liu Huan from daring to fight. The Liang army's partial division attacking the Wei River was defeated, and Liu Huan had the intention of retreating. In order to confuse Liu Huan, Fu Cunzhen deliberately sent people to release horses in the sand garden and open a gap. In the nineteenth year of Tianyou (922), because Zhenzhou could not be attacked for a long time, Li Cunxun sent Fu Cunxun to lead an army to attack. The defender of Zhenzhou, Li Zaifeng, saw that the general situation was gone, so he secretly surrendered to Fu Cunzhen, and then the Jin army conquered Zhenzhou. In the twentieth year of Tianyou (923), the Liao army attacked Youzhou, and the chancellor Guo Chongtao, jealous that Fu Cunzhen's prestige exceeded his own, took the initiative to recommend Fu Cunxun to Li Cunxun as an envoy of Youzhou Jiedushi, allowing him to resist the Liao army.

At that time, Li Cunxun called Emperor Jiantang, but Fu Cunxun was sullen and unhappy because he could not reuse it, so he was seriously ill and did not want to go to Youzhou. However, under the advice of Guo Chongtao, Li Cunxun insisted on ordering Fu Cunxun to go to Youzhou, and he had to take up his post with illness. Soon after, Li Cunxun destroyed Hou Liang and captured the Central Plains, so Fu Cunzhen insisted on joining the imperial government. In the end, Because of Guo Chongtao's obstruction, Fu Cunzhen was unable to enter the court to meet the emperor, so he had to die in Youzhou, and warned his sons not to be extravagant before dying.

In general, Fu Cunzhen was a famous general of the Later Tang Dynasty, who made great contributions in the process of helping Li Cunxun capture the Central Plains and destroy Hou Liang.
