Some airports can even allow big guys like the C-17 and A319 to take off and land normally.
As a major Antarctic expedition country, it is urgent for China to establish its own "permanent airport", and the establishment of its Antarctic permanent airport can not only meet the needs of the expedition team, but also provide the necessary conditions for China to have airspace management rights in Antarctica! Compared with the domestic airport, the airport that China plans to build in Antarctica is not very large, but the requirements for communication systems and navigation systems are not low.
We all know that the surface of the Antarctic continent is covered with tens of meters of snow, and the airport runway is made of concrete, which has a large friction, and the snow covered by the Antarctic surface makes the friction of the aircraft to the ground "close to zero". Therefore, if you want to build a permanent airport in Antarctica, the first thing to conquer is the runway! But China already has countermeasures, first the snow on the surface of the Antarctic is simply treated, and then compacted, which turns the soft snow into "grain snow", and the friction of "grain snow" is larger, which solves the problem of the runway of the Antarctic airport.
Although the workflow looks the same as building roads, it is difficult to "simply treat" the snow covered by the Antarctic surface to a depth of more than ten meters, and the airport runway that China will build in Antarctica is expected to be 1500 meters long and 80 meters wide.
