On October 14, 2021, the 5th anniversary of the "I Am Your Eye" mobile app was successfully held in Beijing. The mobile application is supported by Qualcomm's "Wireless Care" program, which aims to use the power of technology to improve the quality of life of visually impaired people in an all-round way through the joint efforts of enterprises, social welfare organizations and research institutes. At the meeting, qualcomm and BSR (business social responsibility), the initiators of the project, announced that Beijing Baoyi Interactive Technology Development Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Baoyi") will relay to become the project operator, through the "I am your eye" WeChat Mini Program platform, so that the project covers a wider range of visually impaired groups and better meets the changing needs of the visually impaired groups.

Empowering public welfare development with science and technology, more than 20,000 volunteers and visually impaired users have been brought together in five years

The 14th Five-Year Plan and the outline of long-term goals for 2035 point out that it is necessary to strengthen the capacity building of service facilities and comprehensive services for the disabled, and improve the construction and maintenance of barrier-free environments. Using technology to promote the development of accessible products and solutions is the trend of the times, and "I am your eye" is a representative of success. The project actively uses wireless technology to contribute to the construction of a barrier-free environment and help promote the construction of an information-based society that fully takes into account the needs of the disabled.

At the event, leaders from China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, BSR, Baoyi, qualcomm companies conducted in-depth discussions on the topic of science and technology to promote the construction of barrier-free environment.

Wang Lin, Director of BSR China, a project partner, said, "In the past five years, each project partner has used its own advantages to provide all-round support for project development from the aspects of technology, academics, needs and project management, and continuously explore innovative models that use the power of science and technology to build a barrier-free environment through in-depth and stable cooperation, so that visually impaired groups can also enjoy the benefits of scientific and technological progress equally." The 'I Am Your Eye' APP has accumulated profound experience in project operation, and through continuous optimization, the APP function is more fluent, the APP design is more in line with the needs of the visually impaired group, and the user experience continues to upgrade. ”

Since the launch of the project, the number of visually impaired users and volunteers has continued to grow steadily. Up to now, the volunteers of the "I Am Your Eye" APP come from 32 provinces and cities in China (including Taiwan), and the number of visually impaired users has exceeded 16,000, and the number of volunteers has exceeded 11,000. A total of 4,491 image assistance requests and 12,424 video call requests were initiated by visually impaired users.

Effectively reach the needs of visually impaired groups, and explore new paths for technology to help blind people

At the meeting, the project initiator representatives Qualcomm Company and BSR will jointly officially hand over the baton symbolizing the development of the "I am your eye" project and Baoyi, which means that in the future, Baoyi will carry out the main operation work of the project and promote the development of the project into a new stage.

Cao Jun, founder of Baoyi, said that as a company composed of a large number of blind employees and focusing on the development of blind technology solutions, Baoyi has a deep understanding of the visually impaired community. Over the past five years, Baoyi has been providing technical support for the "I Am Your Eye" APP and has accumulated rich practical experience in projects. After taking over the "I am your eye" project, the future Polytech is committed to improving the project in three directions: one is to use the social attributes of the WeChat platform to absorb more volunteers and social forces to help the visually impaired; the second is to use advanced AI technology to reduce the burden of volunteers, improve the efficiency of project services, and improve the user experience; third, on the basis of 5G-enabled high-quality remote communication, access more enterprises and public welfare organizations, and effectively solve the problem of life travel guarantee for visually impaired people through multi-party collaboration.

In order to further broaden the coverage of the project, the project team officially launched the "I Am Your Eye" WeChat Mini Program on July 1. On the basis of the original function of picture assistance, the Mini Program has added three new functions, including OCR text recognition, AI image recognition, and binding functions of relatives and friends, which increases the convenience of volunteers and visually impaired users. The new features provide faster, more timely, and intelligent recognition of text and images, and prioritize requests to friends and relatives and volunteers, making them more responsive to the needs of the visually impaired. In the next step, Based on the APP function, Baoyi will use the characteristics of the WeChat Mini Program platform to reach a wide range and have strong flexibility, develop new functions that the Mini Program platform can support, and penetrate into all aspects of the lives of the visually impaired.
