Three tricks to help you beat procrastination! The Spanish media did just that

author:Reference message

According to the website of the Spanish newspaper Abessai, procrastination has become a common trend in our daily lives. In fact, this happens to all people: there is an obligation in front of us, we know we have to complete it, but we are too lazy to do it. So we procrastinated day by day, little by little, until the end of the day, and we didn't finish it.

Our mental activities may be: wait until I watch this episode of the TV series to do it; forget it or wait for tomorrow to do it; it is too late, simply do not do it... So we kept postponing the task, which eventually led to the task not being completed on time.

Indefinite postponement of tasks is also known as procrastination. Specifically, we procrastinate on a task, but in the vast majority of cases it is clear that it is not right to do so. Psychologist Juan Nieto points out that we can discuss procrastination from two "sides" – passive and active.

The first case refers to a task being unconsciously delayed. For example, before we start dealing with tasks that really need to be done, we turn our attention to other tasks. The second scenario refers to the conscious postponement of a task. In this case, either because we feel we need to save more energy to get things done, or because we feel we can do better later.

So why do we procrastinate? The triggers for procrastination include two very important factors: self-esteem and perfectionism.

Is procrastination a time management problem or an emotional management problem? Juan Nieto said both are possible because procrastination can have multiple triggers at its source.

If we recognize ourselves as procrastinators, it's important to analyze the extent to which procrastination affects our lives. Juan Nieto proposes three tips for avoiding procrastination:

1. Good planning. It's important to find our procrastination "patterns": when we usually set out to get things done, which tasks to complete, what tasks annoy us the most, and how long we usually put off tasks, etc.

2. Overcome the first minute obstacles. If we can spend the first minute on a task (i.e. the first step), we have already made a major breakthrough. Once we've spent this minute, we've broken down the main barriers that prevent ourselves from accomplishing the task.

3. Appropriate rewards. Giving ourselves small gifts (a meal, something we love so much) may motivate us to break our procrastination.
