The Invisible Guardians | The Iceman in winter
Spring Festival, Wanli Railway, day and night.
Countless people are silently guarding, some you can see, some you can't see.
Xiao Zhang is a bridge and tunnel worker, and his usual job is to inspect and maintain railway tunnels. In the winter, in order to prevent the water seepage and ice of the tunnel from invading the railway boundary, he had to take advantage of the "skylight" to de-icing the tunnel together with his co-workers.

As the tunnel gets darker, workers not only have to check the vaults and side walls with glare flashlights, but also pay attention to their feet – fasteners, sleepers, cable boxes can easily trip people up.
The walls were frozen solid, and crushed ice splashed under the sharp pickaxes. Xiao Zhang said that although the tools are in hand, it will take a lot of effort to get rid of them. The ice at height had to be dealt with with a four-meter-long ice gun, and the five-pound long pole de-icing could not hurt the cable, which could only be shot by an experienced foreman. Each de-icing operation lasts at least two hours, and once the ice comes down, everyone's arm will be sore for a few days.
Usually, in addition to de-icing operations, workers are basically working outdoors, removing guard cone weeds, oiling bridge supports, cleaning piers and steps, tunnel lining inspection, tunnel coal dust inspection... This is true all year round, and the Spring Festival is endless. Xiao Zhang's Qinxi Bridge Tunnel Workshop Maintenance Team has a total of 15 employees and is in charge of the last two tunnels before the East Qin Railway enters the sea, totaling 3.7 kilometers.
On the Daqin Railway, more than 270 bridge and tunnel workers, like Xiao Zhang and his co-workers, silently guard the main artery of coal transportation.
