"In 1920, a Chinese translation of the Communist Manifesto was published";
"In 1921, the Communist Party of China was a big one, and the red star was first rising";
"In 1935, the national anthem was sung publicly for the first time"...
Recently, the public telephone booths on the streets of Shanghai have become red! Over the past century, the Shanghai Red Story and Red Communication Story, which have been widely known or little known, have been made into more than 100 posters and installations and exhibited on the telephone booth. More than 500 "stories" telephone booths were collectively unveiled on the streets on the eve of July 1st.

<h2>Red flag pavilion, radio wave pavilion... Tell the history of China's development in the past century</h2>
In August 1920, a group of aspiring young people initiated the establishment of China's first socialist youth league in Yuyangli; in July 1921, the first national congress of the Communist Party of China was held in Shudri, announcing the official establishment of the Communist Party of China.
Today, a hundred years later, in the middle of Huaihai Road near Chengdu South Road, adjacent to the old sites of Yuyangli and Shudri, a new "Red Flag Pavilion" has been erected to pay tribute to the heroes of a hundred years ago with bright red flags and flame images. This red telephone booth located on the century-old Huaihai Road attracts the attention of many pedestrians.
Seeing this specially designed telephone booth, many young people have entered the pavilion and taken the lead in experiencing punching. Mr. Wu, who had just finished taking the photo, said, "I took a photo with my friends to make a postcard, which is quite suitable for couples to take pictures, there are several backgrounds to choose from, I chose this red to celebrate the centenary of the founding of the party." ”
The reporter experienced the scene, and the ordinary telephone booth is different, this telephone booth next to the public telephone, there is an electronic screen and camera, according to the prompts on the screen to pick up the phone and press the 0K key, and then according to the handset prompt tone dial 100 and press the dial key, click to take a picture, print, a few seconds to make a personal postcard.
In 1929, the first radio station of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China was born at No. 9 Fukangli, Daxi Road (now No. 9, Lane 420, Yan'an West Road). Today, a "radio wave pavilion" is newly unveiled here, restoring the Shikumen style where the first radio station of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China is located. Inside the pavilion, the scene of the revolutionary work at that time is reproduced; outside the pavilion, this international megacity with a population of 24 million has jumped from the cable era to the mobile era, from the gigabit city to the 5G city.
On Huaihai Middle Road, a row of public telephone booths was also changed into "new clothes" to show important moments in the history of China's development in the past century: in 1920, a Chinese translation of the Communist Manifesto was published; in 1921, the Communist Party of China was a big party, and the red star was first raised; in 1935, the national anthem was sung publicly for the first time; in 1949, Shanghai was liberated...

<h2>Opening of a special number for the centenary of the founding of the Party</h2>
This special exhibition with the telephone booth as the carrier also includes "sound". Shanghai Telecom specially set up a special number for the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, "20210701", and the public can dial the number anytime and anywhere with landlines and mobile phones (foreign users add 021 at the beginning), that is, they can hear a hundred red historical stories recorded by professional announcers.
Among them, Qiao Hao, a language performance artist and national first-class actor, told the story of the revolutionary martyr Li Bai; Cao Lei, a well-known voice actor and national first-class actor, told the story of the first national congress of the Communist Party of China; and Liu Feng, a national first-class actor and director of the Shanghai Film Translation Factory, told the story of the establishment of the first secret radio station of the Communist Party of China.
Telephone booths scattered throughout the corners and alleys of the city have witnessed the development of Shanghai, constituted the common memory of the times of Shencheng residents, and engraved countless precious historical moments.
<h2>5G, WiFi, charging... The function of the booth is constantly upgraded</h2>
At its peak, there were nearly 10,000 unattended public telephone booths in Shanghai, and there are still more than 4,000 telephone booths scattered everywhere.
With the popularity of mobile phones, the scene of people queuing up to make calls has disappeared, and public telephone booths have long been quietly upgraded with more new features.
On the telephone booth on Huaihai Middle Road with "new clothes", the reporter saw that some of the telephone booths were also marked with "Xuhui Yue Reading Pavilion". Unlike ordinary telephone booths, there are not only public telephones in the pavilion, but also a small bookshelf with different books for borrowing, and you can also participate in the "reading rafting" activity according to the prompts.
In some phone booths at Shanghai Railway Station, the notice "Shanghai Telecom Official Telephone Free Call" is posted. From October 1, 2019, Shanghai Telecom opened a "limited-time free public telephone service" at nearly 300 public telephones at Pudong Airport, Hongqiao Airport and Shanghai New Railway Station, providing passengers with a 3-minute intra-city/domestic free call service every time, so that tourists can "report safety" to their families after arriving in Shanghai.
In addition to the traditional telephone booths, the semi-enclosed "art pavilions" on Yuyuan Road often attract pedestrians to stop and explore. In addition to being equipped with a public telephone, the "art pavilion" can also allow pedestrians to stop and rest, and also comes with WiFi and USB ports to provide convenience for the public to access the Internet and charge.
With the rapid development of 5G, some roadside phone booths have also been upgraded to 5G phone booths to better achieve seamless coverage of 5G signals in hotspot areas. The first batch of 5G phone booths are mainly distributed in the downtown commercial area, with about 100 more.

In addition, we will also pilot the installation of touch-screen telephones, pilot access to the "One Netcom Office", and quickly connect the "12345" citizen service hotline platform and other functions to further meet the needs of citizens' information services and show the urban temperature of Shanghai.
