How to open the world's heaviest doors.
This 1979 photograph shows an employee at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory opening the world's heaviest hinged door, which is 3.43 meters thick, nearly 3.65 meters wide and weighs 4.4 tons. Special bearings in the hinge allow a person to open or close the door. This door protects the rotating target neutron source II (RTNS-II), the world's most intense continuous fusion neutron source.
