According to a report in Bild, Lonnick wanted United to sign Leipzig midfielder Hydara, but the club's top brass told him to sell first.
Lonnick confirmed Hydara as his ideal candidate to strengthen United's midfield. Hydara played for Bundesliga side Leipzig and Ronnick was very familiar with him because it was Ronnick who brought him to Leipzig.
However, Rangnick has been told he will not be allowed to sign any players in the winter window until some of the Red Devils' fringe players are sold, and United hope to ease their tight finances.
The 23-year-old, whose contract with Leipzig expires in 2025, has made 18 appearances this season and scored three goals.
