Recently, Ma Dajie, a 58-year-old who lives in Pingluo County, Ningxia, suddenly suffered from a lung infection, and the hospital treatment has not improved for many days, and there is intermittent fever, the maximum body temperature reaches 39.8 °C, and accompanied by dizziness, fatigue, indifference, breathing difficulties, etc., on January 2, 2022, she was admitted to the emergency department of the General Hospital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region People's Hospital. After consultation and medical history, it was a "disaster" caused by pigeon breeding.
After Ma Dajie was admitted to the hospital, the monitoring body temperature was 38.5 ° C, with acute respiratory failure, the doctor immediately gave the endotracheal intubation and ventilator assisted ventilation, and the blood oxygen saturation gradually increased to 98%, and the chest CT examination showed double pneumonia, bilateral pleural hypertrophy, and adhesions. He was admitted to the EICU for treatment with "community-acquired pneumonia (severe) type I respiratory failure", and no obvious abnormalities were found in the relevant tests. In order to seek the cause, while giving symptomatic treatment, the hospital organizes a discussion of general medical records. After 3 days, the test results showed Chlamydia psittacosis infection. After asking about the medical history, Sister Ma said that there were pigeons in the family, and the "real culprit" that caused her fever was finally found.

After careful treatment and care by medical staff, after 7 days, Sister Ma finally turned the corner and successfully offline extubated. After two weeks, her sanity gradually became clear, and all indicators and organ functions returned to normal. On January 17, Sister Ma was about to be discharged from the hospital, and the family sent a pennant to thank all the medical staff in the emergency department. However, Sister Ma, who escaped death, is still full of grievances and incomprehension when she talks about the "flying disaster" some time ago.
Zhang Ling, director of the emergency department of the hospital, explained: "'Parrot fever', also known as bird disease, is a rare zoonotic infectious disease caused by chlamydia psittaci infection. Infections are often caused by inhalation of pathogen-containing gases, dust, or close contact with sick birds and poultry. Its incidence is low, the incubation period is 1 to 2 weeks, up to 45 days, the clinical manifestations are diverse, the onset of the disease can be slow, and the body temperature gradually rises in 3 to 4 days or longer, but most of them are acute onset, manifested by high fever, chills, exhaustion and weakness, severe headache and systemic muscle pain are common complaints, and severe patients can have dyspnea, cyanosis, irritability, delirium, stiffness, coma, etc. Some cases have gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Therefore, the diagnosis is difficult, the treatment is not timely, and the patient's life will be endangered. ”
Here, I would like to remind the majority of bird lovers to pay attention to:
1. Avoid contact with the affected bird and pay attention to personal protection. Birds do not necessarily have symptoms after infection with Chlamydia psittacoplasma, and humans should wear protective equipment such as gloves and masks when they come into contact with them, and wash their hands thoroughly after contact to avoid infection caused by pathogen residues.
2, should pay attention to maintain hygiene, daily cleaning of bird cages, in the cleaning of feces is best to wear masks and gloves, promote the use of "wet work", so as to avoid the spread of pathogenic microorganisms into the air, inhaled into the human body and infected. In addition, bird cages should be hung in an outdoor ventilated place.
3. Treat and isolate sick birds and poultry to avoid infecting other healthy animals and humans.
4. If you accidentally get sick and have relevant symptoms, go to the hospital immediately for medical treatment, and tell your poultry contact history when you seek medical treatment, so that the doctor can judge the condition.
