An explosion in eastern Pakistan killed 3 people and injured 23

ISLAMABAD, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- According to Pakistani media reports, an explosion broke out in a market in Lahore, the capital of the country's eastern Punjab province, on the afternoon of the 20th, killing at least 3 people and injuring 23 others.

The report quoted Abid Khan, deputy chief constable of the Lahore police in charge of the operations department, as saying that the explosive device was installed on a motorcycle parked in the market. Immediately after the explosion, police, security forces and rescue workers rushed to the scene to take the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment. At least 4 of the injured were seriously injured and the death toll could rise further.

Reports said multiple vehicles and shops were badly damaged in the blast. Security forces and police have sealed off the blast site to investigate the incident.

At present, no organization or individual claims to have committed the bombing.
