FIFA officially announced that Vidal's ban has been reduced from 3 to 2, but a fine of CHF 5,000 will still be charged.

In the World Preliminary Tournament between Chile and Ecuador, Vidal was sent off straight and sentenced to a three-game suspension and a fine of CHF 5,000. After a complaint by the Chilean Football Federation, FIFA changed the initial penalty decision. Vidal will miss the next two games against Argentina and Bolivia, but can play against Brazil and Uruguay in March.
