In the face of natural disasters, there is a need for help, not hegemony

In recent days, the disaster caused by the volcanic eruption in the South Pacific island nation of Tonga has shocked the world. Giant mushroom clouds are clearly visible in outer space, huge explosions are still clearly audible nearly a thousand kilometers away, dense volcanic ash covers the sky, and earthquakes and tsunamis caused by volcanic eruptions occur one after another. The Prime Minister's Office of Tonga officially declared on the 19th local time that the whole country entered a state of emergency until February 13. According to scientific observations, this eruption will continue for several weeks and will have a significant impact on the global climate this year.

In the face of natural disasters, human beings need to unite and help the people affected by the disaster. China is not only an advocate of a community with a shared future for mankind, but also an active practitioner. The Chinese government is highly concerned about the volcanic disaster in Tonga and has provided urgent humanitarian assistance to Tonga. President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang sent condolence messages to King Tupou VI of Tonga and Prime Minister Sovalerini respectively. The Red Cross Society of China provided $100,000 in emergency humanitarian spot assistance to Tonga. The Chinese government also urgently raised 280,000 yuan worth of drinking water, food and other emergency supplies, which were donated to the Tonga government through the Chinese Embassy in Tonga. It is reported that the Chinese Government will continue to track the disaster situation in Tonga and provide humanitarian assistance to help the Government and people of Tonga overcome the disaster and rebuild their homes at an early date.

Foreign sources have reported that the United States has heavy troops stationed in Hawaii and Guam, and if there is emergency rescue, the reconnaissance plane can fly to Tonga on the same day, and the rescue fleet can also arrive within a few days; the maritime preset troops deployed on Saipan are equipped with a number of 40,000-ton transport ships and 60,000-ton large ro-ro ships; CH-53K heavy helicopters and MV-22 Osprey rotorcraft have a powerful vertical delivery capability from sea to land. At present, Tonga's domestic airports and docks are seriously damaged, and if the United States wishes, the above-mentioned ships and warplanes can provide the most urgently needed material support and personnel rescue services for disaster relief operations. However, the United States, which has always reached out to pacific affairs, has not stepped in to aid Tonga in time, and the U.S. military has been busy "ready" to deal with China and exert greater military pressure on China.

On January 15, the day of the eruption of the Tonga volcano, the U.S. military dispatched the Ohio-class strategic nuclear submarine USS Nevada to Guam. CNN boasts to the world: "The U.S. Navy's most powerful weapon rarely appears on Guam." Over the past few days, the United States and Japan have closely negotiated to expand military bases and stockpile arms in areas adjacent to the island of Taiwan. In addition, the US military's Carl Vincent and other three aircraft carrier battle groups and two amphibious assault ship formations have successively assembled around the East China Sea and the South China Sea to prepare for the implementation of the "Pacific Deterrence Plan" with unprecedented naval and air forces. Today's Russian article hit the nail on the head: "Guam is near Taiwan, where there is the closest US military base to China."

Some military commentators have analyzed that the US military deployment is not only aimed at China, but also to undermine the security environment of the entire Asia-Pacific region, intensify contradictions, and trigger conflicts and turmoil, so as to rely on military hegemony to re-establish the dominant position of the United States in the Asia-Pacific region. Such hegemonic acts not only threaten China's sovereignty and security, but also seriously threaten the security and development interests of countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

The self-proclaimed world leader of the United States has not yet provided humanitarian relief to Tonga, and its eyes are only military confrontation, and it can only tolerate solipsism. The disaster caused by the volcanic eruption in Tonga can one day be quelled, and the performance of the United States in dealing with the disaster in Tonga has allowed people around the world to see the indifference, selfishness and domineering of the United States from one side. In the face of natural disasters, the international community should lend a helping hand to Tonga, and the indifference of American hegemony is really disgraceful! (Author: Hu Yang)
