On October 14, The Paper's reporter learned from the Shanghai Railway Transport Procuratorate that after the court initiated a public prosecution, the court sentenced defendant Hua to one year in prison and a fine of 2,000 yuan for committing theft, and ordered him to return all losses to the victim.
According to the Shanghai Railway Transport Procuratorate, Hua mou is over 50 years old, unemployed, and lives on eating low insurance. According to neighbors, he usually leaves the house from seven to eight in the morning and returns around ten o'clock.
Hua returned to his residence after committing the crime.
On a certain day in March 2020, Hua took the rail train back and forth 18 times in the section from Gaoke West Road to Yuanshen Sports Center Station on Shanghai Metro Line 6.
On the 19th time, Hua boarded a train bound for Century Avenue. Xiao Zhang, who was carrying a black backpack and standing in the aisle with his head down to play with his mobile phone, caught his attention. In the crowded subway car, Hua Mou has been squeezed behind Xiao Zhang, and followed Xiao Zhang's turn and moved.
After waiting for the right time, Hua skillfully covered his right hand with the bag in his left hand, and used his right hand to pull open the zipper of the small backpack. After winning the hand, he got off the bus at century avenue station to escape, at this time Xiao Zhang was also aware, but he did not chase all the way, so he called the police.
The public security organs arrested Hua at the entrance of a community in Pudong New Area and seized part of the stolen money from him on the spot.
However, Hua refused to confess to the fact that he had carried out pickpocketing. He said, "This 1,800 yuan in cash is usually saved up one after another by eating low insurance and rubbing mahjong..."
The prosecutor checked the cash crown number of the ATM machine when Xiao Zhang withdrew, compared the 1800 yuan of cash seized from Hua's body when he was arrested, and found that all of them matched, thus breaking Hua's defense that this cash was his own.
The procuratorial organs found that Hua Mou had a heavy history and was punished four times for theft. At the time of the crime, the subway was crowded, but Hua mou took a round-trip ride on rail transit line 6 18 times in the 40 minutes before the crime; during the crime, Hua always closely followed the victim, and when the victim turned around in place, Hua still followed his turn and moved his position despite the crowding and inconvenience in the carriage. And after Hua fled the scene, he took multiple buses and taxis successively, and had a long walking process. The mode of transportation and route they choose is counterintuitive.

In response to these abnormalities, the prosecutor intensified the interrogation, through the above behavior and trajectory clearly contrary to common sense, broke through its psychological defense line, and finally informed him of the key evidence about the crown number. In the end, Hua truthfully confessed the theft of the day and was willing to admit guilt and accept punishment.
