England were concerned about Farrell's physical condition ahead of the Six Nations

England captain Owen Farrell may not play in the Six Nations for months after his comeback plans for the Saracens against the London Irishman were questioned on 20 January 2022 in the Champions League over the weekend.

Although an ankle injury in the match against Australia has not been played since last November, head coach Eddie Jones nominated the striker in England on Tuesday.

"Owen will make a late decision. It's his first week of team training," said Mark McCall, head of the Salacens rugby team.

"We just have to see how he reacts to the training. Owen has been working hard... We will see if he can play this Sunday this weekend. ”

On Monday, England began preparing for the Six nations at a camp in Brighton, where they will travel to Scotland on 5 February to begin their campaign.

Jones defended his decision to retain Farrell as captain on Wednesday, saying the 30-year-old remains "the right man for the job", despite his average performance in recent seasons and a short playing time on the pitch.

"We saw Irving in November and in the short time he played he was really positive and he was rejuvenated," Jones said.

"And you have to remember that those Saracens had a very difficult time. I certainly didn't appreciate it as much as I should. I think they can go back to the Six (in 2021) and at the level they can reach, and I overestimate that. ”
