Crossroads I.

Majoral Tissino / Past and Present

The private house was originally a work that Majoral renovated a few years ago, but now the client has bought the house next door and commissioned Majoral to renovate and expand it. Since the original residence already met the need for habitability, the extension functionally required only a more spacious living room, a studio with access to the courtyard, and a bedroom.

Majoral connected the ground floors of the two buildings, moving the location of the original bathrooms so that people could walk directly from the old building into the vaulted hall of the new building. As an indoor traffic center, the vaulted hall leaves room for traffic, the furniture is designed to accommodate changes in steps and height, and Majoral has added a large window on the west side of the hall to increase indoor lighting.

The new studio connects to the outdoor courtyard through flat-pushed glass doors, creating a comfortable working space for users in a tranquil, peaceful atmosphere combined with the sound of babbling water. The bedroom is located on the mezzanine, and standing in front of the window you can see the iconic towers of Montgrí and Cruïlles not far away.

Palamós

Majoral Tissino / Past and Present

Located on the winding shores of the Brava coast, Palamós is now a thriving tourist destination, located near a port with sweeping views of the sea. The five-storey residence is only 5x4 meters in size each, and the client wants to add an elevator to the residence. Faced with this huge challenge, Majoral has refined the space.

There are almost no interior walls in the building, wooden furniture is the medium that separates the space, and a layer of wooden doors is also added to the outside of the elevator to connect with the wall, which is better integrated into the overall design. The first floor of the residence is a simple foyer, the second and third floors are bedrooms, and the fourth and fifth floors with the best views are the dining room and living room. Each floor of space makes full use of the location advantage, through the window to bring sea view and natural light into the interior, reducing the sense of oppression caused by the small space.

Crossroads II.

Majoral Tissino / Past and Present

The residence is located in a steep-sloped street in Kruyes, where the walls on the east, south and west sides are shared walls, and the north wall facing the street is an ancient defensive wall. In order to preserve the original wall of the site to the greatest extent possible on the basis of opening up the space, Majoral designed a small atrium surrounded by three sides of the building, so that the small space can also have a transparent and natural atmosphere.

Entering the residence through the black gate, you can see the huge window openings and the courtyard with the sink, and the bathroom and guest room doors are made of the same wood as the walls, making the whole space more simple and comfortable. The dining room of the residence also faces the same high atrium as the living room, which is open and transparent. The stone walls of the site have been cleaned up, preserving the original texture and historical traces. A large number of locally produced woods are used in the interior, and the customized size of wooden furniture is adapted to the space, and can replace the internal wall to play a role in dividing.
