The reason why Feng Xiaogang's film "Fanghua" has attracted much attention, in addition to Feng Xiaogang's golden signboard, the most important reason is that the film uses 20 minutes to show the scene of the self-defense counterattack against Vietnam in 1979, of which the bloody rain and wind, cruel and tragic battlefield scene is about 9 minutes.

For reasons that are well known, after the normalization of relations between the two countries in the early 1990s, film and television dramas based on this war were no longer filmed, and the occasional related plot was also a dragonfly, and it passed in a flash. With Feng Xiaogang's box office appeal, it can reflect this war in the film, and evoke everyone's long-sealed memories, which naturally arouses the great interest of the audience, especially the veterans and military fans who participated in the war.

The battle process in the film is not long, and the plot is simple. Liu Feng, played by Huang Xuan, as a deputy company commander, was ordered to lead a reinforced platoon of troops together with the deputy instructor to escort the mule and horse team to deliver ammunition for the most advanced troops. While passing through a thatched field, they were ambushed by the Vietnamese army, who fought hard to eliminate the ambushed enemy and paid a heavy price of sacrificing 16 people and seriously wounding 5 people.

By its very nature, the battle was a typical inter-marching anti-enemy squad (judging from the film, the Vietnamese army's strength is very limited, personally no more than one platoon) ambush battle. Anti-ambush is a special kind of battle carried out by the army in the movement in order to crush the enemy's ambush attempt and get rid of the passive position. In the 1979 self-defense counterattack against Vietnam, the Vietnamese army often used favorable terrain to ambush our army, so counter-ambush was an important tactical problem facing our army at that time.

Ambush is a form of combat used by vietnamese infantry detachments in offensive and defensive operations, and it is also the traditional tactics of the Vietnamese army. The Vietnamese army believes that this tactic is the basic means to implement the idea of actively attacking, destroying the enemy, winning more with less, and annihilating the enemy quickly. With the mountainous jungle land convenient for concealed terrain conditions, it is conducive to grasping the initiative of the battle, launching a battle suddenly, the ambush time is short, and the firepower is fierce, which is convenient for a quick battle at close range.

The Vietnamese army usually uses the darkness of night and bad weather to conceal into the ambush area, tightly camouflaged, and after the other side enters the ambush area, it forms an encirclement and division position, the lock part is first fired, and then the multi-directional and multi-soldier roads of each part suddenly fire at the same time, taking advantage of the confusion of the other side's formation to launch a charge, approach and insert, with close combat firepower quickly complete annihilation, in order to prevent the opponent's air, artillery counterattack, reinforcement encirclement or inability to completely annihilate, that is, the main force covered by the vigilance detachment to quickly retreat along several routes.

Therefore, our army's anti-ambush battles in the mountains and jungles often have the following two unfavorable factors:

The enemy situation is unknown, the terrain is unfamiliar, and the battle trigger is sudden. Liu Feng's detachment marched in two columns along the dirt road in the middle of a large area of thatch, and was suddenly hit by Vietnamese fire that was buried in the grass on both sides of the road.

The terrain conditions are unfavorable, usually there is no ideal terrain, the features can be used, in a passive position. After the battle was triggered, because the squad was on a road that could be hidden without any obstacles, more than ten people were knocked down in an instant.

After being ambushed by the enemy, the most critical factor is to be determined and heroic, and not to panic and hesitate. The commanders immediately ascertained the situation, quickly and decisively made up their minds, resolutely stabilized the hearts and minds of the troops, and commanded the troops to use terrain and features to shade them and ensure that the structure was not scattered and the personnel were not chaotic. At the same time, according to the actual situation, the rapid deployment of troops to organize a counterattack. Use a small number of troops to contain the stronger side of the enemy, concentrate the firepower of troops to attack the weak side of the enemy, occupy the position after winning the hand, and control the favorable terrain. Then organize the firepower of the troops, divide and annihilate the enemy.

If the firepower of the troops is superior to that of the enemy, it is possible to adopt a multi-way attack, a detour on the flanks, and a method of play that preempts the main points, forcing the enemy to disperse the troops, making it difficult for the enemy to support each other and not being able to take care of each other before and after. The firearms detachment occupied the position on the spot, using a variety of simple firing methods, quickly opened fire to suppress the enemy and cover the attack of the infantry detachment. And alternately shift to the favorable terrain I have seized, as appropriate, and destroy the enemy with heavy fire.

In the film, after the battle began, although there was a short period of chaos, liu feng's squad did not stop being beaten, but immediately broke into the grass, fought for themselves, fought for themselves, fought with the enemy in a short melee, fought actively, and finally, with the support of the fierce fire of the tank detachment, eliminated the ambushed enemy, embodying a heroic and tenacious fighting style.

In real history, the example of our army suffering heavy losses due to an ambush by the Vietnamese army occurred on February 18, 1979. At 22:00 that night, when the reserve command post of the 121st Division of the 41st Army in Guangxi led the 3rd Battalion of the 362nd Regiment and the logistics front echelon into the valley near Kuituo, they were suddenly attacked by the Vietnamese fire on the mountain.

In the darkness, vietnamese agents who had mixed into the migrant workers took the opportunity to shoot and drop bombs, shouting and shouting, and the whole team suddenly lost control. Two companies of the 3rd Battalion and divisions rushed out of the blockade area. Due to the heavy load, poor tactical action, and the main area of the enemy's fire blockade, the front echelon of logistics was quickly killed, and the team lost command.

With no organized fire to suppress the enemy, the Vietnamese troops on the hill fought until 3 a.m. the next day before calmly leaving. This time it was ambushed by the enemy, with 116 casualties and more than 200 civilian workers, and the materials they carried were lost, and they basically lost their support capabilities. The reason why the 121st Division lost logistical support for a week, the combat effectiveness of the troops was seriously weakened, and the attrition rate was high, which had a direct and important relationship with this battle.

A typical example of our army's successful anti-ambush operation is as follows: At 11:30 a.m. on March 2, when the 6th Company of the 2nd Battalion of the 485th Regiment of the 162nd Division, which was searching south along the Guangdong (Yuan) Fu (He) Highway, entered the valley southwest of Dong'e, it was fiercely fired by the Vietnamese army on three sides and was in a very unfavorable situation. 1 platoon occupied the ditch on the right side of the road and the ridge ridge to return fire to the enemy with fire.

The 8th Company of the Division's Artillery Regiment, which was followed by the 6th Company, quickly stopped at about 150 meters behind the flank, picked up the guns and adjusted the frames, and opened the frame, and within a minute and a half all the guns of the company began to shoot. The 1st Platoon of the Regimental High Aircraft Company was also deployed behind the artillery flank to support infantry combat. At about 12:00, the company organized parts of the 2nd and 3rd platoons to attack the heights on the west side of the road, supported by cannon and anti-aircraft machine guns.

Acting 2 platoon commander Wang Xikun and 4 squad leader Pan Xila were particularly prominent in the battle, annihilating 11 and more than 20 enemy soldiers respectively. After nearly 5 hours of fighting, the 6th Company, with the coordination of brother companies, won the victory of annihilating 151 enemy soldiers. After the war, the company was awarded the honorary title of "Assault Hero Company", and the acting 2nd Platoon Commander Wang Xikun Martyr and 4th Squad Leader Pan Xila the honorary title of "Combat Hero".
